I received a NIP 90 in a 70 today from a speed camera van.

I called today and asked if the driver could be identified. The response was "no", the driver can't be descibed as male or female but they are wearing sunglasses.

If it was the case that only one person was legally insured to drive that car is there any leeway legally? The NIP says if you dont identify the driver that there is a £1k fine and 3 points.

Any advice on what to do now - no conditional offer has been made as yet!

If it was you driving, I wouldn't suggest trying to make anything up...

Without someone else insured I think you're on a sticky wicket. If you say you let someone else drive without insurance then I think you can get booked for knowingly doing that.IANAL so I could be wrong. And as Jasandjules says it doesn't pay to lie.

Would never lie, just wondered what right you have to identify yourself as driver if that was the case!

As it stands at the moment if you were driving then I don't think you have a choice but to "confess" (S172?)

If you let me drive it I'd be insured on my own policy, admittedly only 3rd party but it's still insurance.
