I attended a course with a Cadet force in 1991 - we were in the Bavarian Alps for a Duke of Edinburgh's award scheme.

Colin Cramphorn ran the course - I was there as an "adult instructor".

I remember him as being a thoroughly nice bloke, and he really was really bothered about and cared for all the kids that were there. It's a complete shock to read of his death at such a young age.

I don't know what else to say. I'm just so shocked.

How very very sad. I remember seeing him on TV 12 months ago when the WPC was shot dead. I found he dealt with the whole situation with such professionalism.

What a shame more Chief Constable's aren't like him.
