Motorcycle speedtrap questions
Discussion
I've just seen a motorcycle based speed trap parked up on the side of one of the main roads out of Norwich (Hall Road if any of the locals are on here). The nice man who was operating the kit appeared to have the equipment mounted on a tripod, and was looking at a screen which was mounted on the back of his bike.
Although outside a police station the bike was liveried up with something like 'camera support' with no Police logos, so I guess he's SCP rather than Trafpol.
This has got me wondering about a couple of things though. Firstly, he wasnt following the cars with the speedtrap gear but was just looking at the screen, so would he actually have been taking readings or just setting up? . Surely there would be slip error if he wasnt following the traffic ?
Secondly, as he was looking only at the screen how could he have obtained prior opinion?, not that it would probably make any difference if it came to court....
I suppose it could have been ANPR but despite being outside a police station there was no visible police presence, Trafpol or otherwise, and in any case I've seen him parked up on his own elsewhere around Norwich. All the ANPR ops I've seen have had a large Trafpol presence close by.
BTW I'm not concerned about getting a NIP as I was travelling at an indicated 30 or below, partly because I always do along there (school, police station etc) and partly because several cars coming the other way decided they ought to warn me of their presence as per paragraph 90 of the Highway Code and I wondered why they might be doing this....
