Dundee/ Tay Bridge Cameras: ANPR? Active?
Discussion
Any Taysiders know what the current situation is with the cameras on the road bridge? I ask as 'a freind' may have inadvertently used the bridge a couple of times recently having briefly forgotten to renew their Tax/MOT..
Anyone I've spoken to doesn't seem to know whether they are even active at the moment.
Ta!

OK, after a little more investigation, they are definitely ANPR's , with Forth and Kincardine bridges having the same.
What I'm not clear on is whether using the bridge in a car without tax means an automatic NIP winging its way to you, or whether they are just flagging up high profile plates - stolen vehicles etc.
I haven't heard anything in the papers about the presumably large numbers of prosecutions for no tax/MOT that would happen if the cameras checked every plate against the database.

If that area works anything like mine then ANPR is for "denying criminals the use of the roads."
You could easily work to that aim when stopping a "disqualifed driver coming from a burglary in a stolen car" but it looses credibitly with "average joe public with a two month out of date tax"
That said, both are offences and officers in a position to do so will/may deal with both, the reality is there are only so many hours in the day and you get little thanks for knocking off people with no tax but the bosses are very happy with a bad person locled in the local cells.
I know which car I direct my staff to spend more time working on
