What is the lowest amount over the limit that anyone has had or knows of a NIP being served. Can we have actual experiences only and no "my mate was done for 31" sort of stuff unless you can verify it.Just interested....

I got an NIP years ago for doing 69 in a 70mph zone.

I couldn't understand how that could happen until I realised they'd changed the speed limit on the road to 40mph (due to joyriders FFS), and the police decided to set up a hidden camera to catch everyone breaking the new limit.

Unfortunately for the police - who should have checked by driving the road first - the council had not changed any of the signs over, so lots of people successfully appealed.

I nearly failed my driving test for doing 28 in a 30 and "holding traffic up". Right, and at 30mph they'd have dropped back from my Red Austin Metro car with L plates all over it? I don't think so.

The examiner said "I won't fail you for that young man, I'm sure you won't be going too slow for long".

I did fail my test for this, sat slowly behind a council vehicle, examiner failed me as he informed me the road was wide enough to go three wide (I didn't want to overtake into oncoming traffic).

Father in law got nipped for 34 in a 30 in Lancs... rumours abound of 33's too but I've never seen any evidence.

My only 3 were for an average 93 on a motorway - can't really complain about that one!

I am also interested in the genuine replies (from people who it happened to not their friends) - the ammount of times people have told me that they have a mate/brother/sister/aunt/uncle/neighbour/parrot that got fine for 31 in a 30 !!

Also, some people say they were NIP'd - NIP's are sometimes sent for other reasons, I would like to actually know convictions. ?

Ahh the Holy Grail of NIPS.

They are always in the ownership of a friend of a friend but seem to disappear when they get close.

I would love to see one scanned - I think Paul at Safespeed would know if there is one!

How about the highest speed stopped for, but no points/fine/conviction?

Can't quite match Cliffe's father in law, but 35 in a 30, in North Wales.

I was pulled over and was shown a 'in car video'.

I was honestly looking at the road ahead, and not my speedo. Whilst I was literally interrogated as to trying to make me admit my crime I was shown the video where the officer accellerated to 135 to catch me whereby he used this to imply this was the speed I was doing.

He did agree however he was gaining on me - so true speed still unknown despite the officer spending 15 minutes trying to get me to 'estimate' my speed.

Does this count, or were you looking at situations where you are 'let off'?

70 in a 40 zone, near man united ground, 2:30 inthe morning, just out of Bowlers, pulled over cop complained he had to accelerate hard to catch me, did the nbreath test, let me go with a warning to slow down.

I was actively encouraged to break the speed limit by my examiner on my test.

My examiner let me have the radio on during my test "if you can concentrate with that on, then it's fine" - wasn't even intentional, totally forgot. He also didn't fail me for 35 in 30 zone

I saw, first hand, a sod of a copper pull someone for approx 55 on 50mph area on A3 at around midnight with no traffic in front of the guy at all, and me and maybe 2 other cars behind in view... thought that was very harsh as posing no danger whatsoever, wasn't swerving or anything.

Hoe do you know it was speed that he was pulled for ?

Within 100 yrds of my test, my DSA examiner leaned her head nearly into my lap (aye aye, I thought), then realised that it was to get a better non-parallax view of the speedo, which was showing just *a smidgeon* above 30. Over-eager and nervous.

I kept it down after that (and the speed, phnar).

Max speed no ticket:

57 in a 30, producer
90+ in a 60, a wave and a smile

No other tugs, no tickets, no points, & no accidents in my daily driving career of 11 years.

62 in a 30 = 6 points
75 on a motorway ( while towing ) = severe talking to, then let off
92 on a motorway = 4 points.

These were all within 4 months of each other approx 10 years ago. I did slow down then, but it wasn't long until I fell back to my old ways.

Clean license since, but its probably only a matter of time.....
