I live in england but I got 2 speeding tickets in the last few days in florida totalling about $400!
I was wondering what happens if I don't pay? i come here quite a lot so i don't want to have warrants out or anything!

Pay or the next time you are there and get pulled over there will be a warrant waiting for you and they will arrest you.
Now spending time in a holding cell with Bubba or the local Gangsta! whilst the paperwork is sorted out isn't going to be on your list of things to do whilst in Florida recomendations.

No problem if your never going back but as you say you visit quite frequently.

I have heard - could be a load of balls but I wouldn't be surprised - that if they issue a ticket against your name in the US and you're a tourist they often take your passport number and can flag your passport with immigration so you can get nabbed then for not payment.
Like I said, unconfirmed, but... Anyone heard this too?

I've also heard this. If you fail to pay fines, the next time you go back, as soon as they put your details in the computer at immigration it will flag up and you could be arrested or refused entry.

They did not ask for my passport only my license. Do they ever contact the british license authorities at all?

I think they are having a christmas speeding clampdown/revenue collection for christmas bonuses or something. I was only doing 88/92mph in a 70 zone in a rented 350z it could have been a lot worse! I guess I better pay them and slow down I don't want to get 3 in one week!

Thanks for the tip. I am currently in Florida, and might just slow down a bit.
I don't WANT to come back, but almost certainly will have to for business. Wonder if I could claim the fine on expenses......

The DVLA will happily sell your details for £2.50 to anyone who wants them

Yes its true they have been fingerprinting and photoing people for over a year now they have a little webcam and a digital print thingy at all the immigration booths.

On the roads be carefull if you are coming out of Miami on I75 just as you get out of the city you go through a sort of spaghetti junction of flyovers thats where I got done the first time and my dad said he got done in the same place a few years back. I think he was parked behind one of the flyover bits and got me from behind with radar. The second guy was up past tampa on I75 maybe the place in that article. He was stopped on the hard shoulder on the fast lane side and I assumed he couldn't clock me from behind so I slowed down more gently. The ticket says I was lasserred at 88mph so I guess they can laser you out the back of the car or maybe that ing elf got me!

I think the best thing to do is stick at around 80 and only put your foot down on the long straights where you can see theres no cops or just not speed at all but 70 is a bit slow especially if you have a few hundred miles to cover.

Got done for 78 in a 55 earlier this year by Joshua tree park police.
The cop wrote out the ticket and i offered to pay there and then. He told me to wait and see if I got any correspondence through the post.
That was back in Feb and nothing so far. I'll keep the ticket with my passport just in case. He seemed to think that the admin side of things would be too much hassle.

Having read this thread earlier, I have just been pulled for 64 in 55.
When I showed him my English paper driving license, he said he would not give me a ticket this time, but I should slow down. He also said that had I been going any faster, he would definately given me a ticket. He was been kind, as I was doing a lot more than this, but slowing down to come off at an exit. ( I 4 / I 275 junction at Tampa ). He lasered me from the back of the car. Built in not hand held.
I am having to go through the finger printing / photographing security routine every day as I am working in a port ( on a ship in dry dock ) and have to go through both the port ( state ) and shipyard ( private company ) security checks as I come and go ( also doing some work in a workshop outside the port ). This is despite having both the correct US work visa for what I do, and correct paper work so I could become part of the ships crew if I so wanted.
