There were quite a few BiB, VOSA and god knows who else at the Dartford tunnel car park today. There were three (I assume)ANPR cameras on a bridge over the M25 and 2 motorcycle BIB laying in wait on the A225 slip road.
In the car park there have been inflatable garages for a few weeks which today had cars in them that were being inspected by lots of people in yellow hi vis coats (VOSA?)
So, does anyone know what this is all about?
I don't really want to get into a "it's wasting tax payers money" debate, I am just curious.

It's now happening more and more, they set up ANPR camera's, then flag in the vehicles that show a "hit" and the bikes are there to chase the ones that don't stop.
Although the system is not infallible, it's taking hundreds of unlicenced/ uninsured or illegal vehicles off the road, all over the country.
You normally find that someone who's willing to break the law with one thing, will also break the law with a number of other things as well. Regularly disqualified drivers, criminals and potentionally unsafe vehicles are caught along with the usual no insurance, MOT or driving licence prats.

The best thing that's been given to the police since handcuffs!
They're removing the idiots that cause the general public the most grief should one ever become involved with one of these low-lifes in a situation on the road.

Do they get many hits on motorways though? I'd have thought they'd be better concentrating on council estates (although the perps get let off with £50 fines anyway).

YES they do! there's a much bigger flow of traffic along a motorway than any main road, although they do hit various area's in and around towns that are known for having lots of possible "hits" (putting it politely!)
Recently on 1 m/way, just after an annual event, in 2 hours, 20+ cars were seized (and they weren't all bangers either!) and numberous offences brought to light.

Couldn't agree more - The more of these idiots they get off the roads the better. My g/f's car has twice been hit by uninsured drivers and we've had to bear the costs associated.
If you can't afford to be on the road you should stay off it!

I am delighted about this.

More power to them.

Let's get uninsured and untaxed knobends off the roads.

Some of the cars in the garages appeared to be quite nice looking cars, not old bangers.
I'm all for it, one of my neighbours drives around in an untaxed car and my guess is that if he wont pay for tax he aint gonna pay for insurance either.

I have seen an unmarked Evo on the M23 and A23 a couple of times.

The Hooks Gazette, published in every Prison, advocates its members to use Country roads to cross the County. But if there is a need to use main roads then an advanced clean vehicle should preceed a dirty vehicle by several miles and report any ANPR vans by Mowbee to the other for a smart detour.......
