For those that don't live near london (you lucky sods), it has been a little bit foggy this week... wednesday could have been described as 'quite foggy', i decided as i made my way up the country back to my parents'. so why exactly, did i see, in the middle of a foggy bit of the m40, a police galaxy parked on a bridge, with cameras lined up across said bridge, and a police omega sat in a layby slightly further on... shirley they can't use the readings from lazer of radar guns in fog? what about all the diffraction?

As there were a multitude of cameras I would suspect they were ANPR cameras.

Which I assume would work just before the car passed underneath.

You haven't even seen fog there, you want to try driving round the cotswolds (ok, today is better!) yesterday out of my front window I could not see next door (10 mtrs max!)
And still there are idiots with no lights on!

Laser do not operate properly when water is involved. Any moisture in the air can refract the beam making readings utterly useless.

Complain to your local Safety Camera Partnership they need something to do in foggy weather. Ah, but no lights is actually dangerous and too few drivers to catch, so they may not be interested.

If there is that much fog that your vision is limited, I assume your speed (and that of other drivers) would be quite low anyway?

Lets face it, speeding in the fog can't be a good thing!

Fog may reduce the operating range of a lidar gun; however, if the operator is capable of seeing a vehicle enough to form prior opinion of its speed, then the lidar gun will usually get a speed reading off that vehicle just fine.

Its been a very relaxing few days for me. No cance of speeding or even geting near the limit in this fog so no need to carefully examine every bridge/van/parked car/hedge ;-)

This mornings Darwin Nominee is the Audi A3 overtaking me round a corner in the fog at a spot where I wasnt able to drive >30MPH as the fog was particularly dense. Considering the speed he flashed past me must have been doing >60MPH ..... then continued to overtake the car in front of me as well. (yesterdays award goes to the honda coming the other way too fast who suddenly found himself in a corner which he couldnt make putting him head on with me! I missed him)

Fog Eh? brings out the bad drivers.

Accident at Critials corner (A20) on Tuesday on the Sevenoaks way and what happens? Within sight of a speed camera (and just before the 70 to 50mph) signs, a 2nd accident on the A20 slip to sevenoaks way.

Now I know nothing more than that, but I'm betting that the vehicles involved in the 2nd accident where travelling too fast to stop.

Caused the closure of the A20 and sevenoaks way, and added an hr to my 25 min journey, and going pass the 1st accident, with all the police there, and measuring, looked pretty much like a K than SI. Wednesday noticed flowers on the side of the A20 also, so the 2nd was a K.

Why do people drive so fast in the fog? I know wack the front and rear fog lights on and I can drive at 70.

Sorry for the people in the 1st accident, the 2nd was (appeared) just stupid.

Don't need to worry about that. Now you have told us we have tapped your bank account, phone, e-mail, snail mail, anpr'd your car and got a tout into you.

Next time you approach a bank (for any reason) ....armed police bang bang game over. Eh possibly not in that order but we will sort that out by the time of the enquiry and you will not be around to prove us wrong. ta ta bank robber.

never thought of that. No need to tap anything. Just pop round the house and pop him. Brilliant.

I passed these at 90mph on Wednesday - didn't see them until it was too late.
But from what I saw, they were ANPR.
