Dodgy police behaviour
Discussion
Driving on the M1 earlier this week, I noticed my neighbour's distinctively painted Range Rover pulled over on the hard shoulder with its hazard flashers on. I stopped in front of it and found that she'd had a puncture and was struggling to get the jack in place etc. I rolled up my sleeves and got stuck in, only to have ten minutes later a Police car also stop to see what was going on. Immediately the Bobby saw me with the spare wheel he insisted very brusquely that I put the wheel down and drive off. I asked him if he was going to change the wheel then, if he was stopping me from doing it. "Not bloody likely", he replied. I carried removing the wheel nuts from the flat tyre, only to then be threatened by the Bobby with being given a ticket "For obstruction" ! At this point both my neighbour and I remonstrated with the Bobby, only to have his driver get out of the police car and open the door of my car and start looking around inside whilst talking on his radio. Having just come back from a booze run to France and with possibly more than my duty free allowance of single malts on board, I had little choice but to get in and drive off. Later that night when my neighbour's husband was buying me a pint in our local for trying to help his Missus, he was saying just how much it cost him to have the Police call out a breakdown truck ( who towed her car off the motorway merely to change the wheel )when the landlord mentioned that he knew for a fact that the towtruck operators pay hefty kickbacks to the Police for callouts of this nature ! I'd have done the job in ten mnutes and for nowt ! The police involvement cost my neighbour a lot of moolah and ensured that his car remained on the motorway for over 90 minutes !

Dare I say this is a made up story.
A police officer would not use the phrase "A ticket for obstruction" because its not the way they talk and there is not a so called ticket procedure for the crime of obstruction a police officer. The course of action would be arrest and report or in very minor circumstances report after confirming personal details.
Next on the list is the police do not call out contractors when the driver is with the vehicle. The driver is asked to call a recovery service if they are a member AA RAC or a private contractor if they wish.
The police can in some circumstances have the vehicle removed and the cost is met by the owner of the vehicle. This requires alot of details that must be passed onto the control room in the first place and changing a tyre is not one of the reasons.
The police do not get any money from the contractor either. Don't know who told you that. the police are a public authority funded by tax payers money. (All the speed camera fined do not go back to the police at all in case you wondered.)
The booze in your car. HM Customs. Plod would not be interested in the drink in your car.
This all happened weeks ago you say and you only choose today to be annoyed about it.
I know I will incurr the wrath and the general rule is we take our fellow PH'rs at face value but there are too many strange things in this story that make me think its all made up.
If you have more details I will tender apologies should they be merited.

I was nearly knocked of my bike by a "highly trained traffic officer" so to say that the police don't do anything wrong is daft. Our 159mph police friend proved that the police aint completely straight

Its not what we are talking about. The one thing nobody will ever say on here is that the police are perfect. Back in your box please. There is a ban on silly comments today.
