flashed at a red light
Discussion
Hmm
Got a NIP in the post from a camera covering a red light and am considering my options
My wife has already confided in me that she was driving down the dual carriageway coming up to the lights and when they turned amber she floored it rather than braking hard. Had she been in her Jag then I think she'd have got away with it but my Audi is somewhat slower and she was flashed...hence the NIP
My question is do I fill her details in on the nip and let justice do its work?
do I fail to supply and take the resultant punishment?
Which is worst when re-insuring the car next year?
by the way we both have clean licenses (me for 11 years her 5 years)

You've done the right thing. The old stop at red law is actually one based on solid road safety science and she should be prosecuted for failing to obey it. Hopefully it'll teach her not to do it any more.
There's a big roundabout with lights on a fast road near an office I'm sometimes in. It defies belief how many people charge through red lights, and it's incredible how long that amber is on for yet people still storm through.
Occasionally an accident, and very regularly someone having to jam on their brakes and hoot to avoid a nutjob jumping the light.
When I'm on the bike I'm away like the flag has dropped the instant that light goes green -- I'd hate to meet your missus coming through on red having "floored it".

Sorry, but her problem I'm afraid - what did she expect you to do?
Very O/T but an interesting story - I know a couple, several years ago he was done heavily because she manoeuvred him into taking the rap. He wasn't native to UK, he had little knowledge of the law since he'd only been here for a couple of years and was slightly dependant on her, she was around 30 and he was 10 yrs younger.
Both had drunk too much at a party. He was on provisional license having not been long in the country, she had many points. She got him to drive, saying that it was ok since he had a licensed driver with him. They got pulled, he was breathalysed and taken away. She got another mate to come and pick her up to take her home. (Obviously cabs don't exist in Denham). She didn't take a breath test, because at that time the Bibs were unaware he didn't have a full license - had they known they would have tested her too since she was "in charge" and she would have taken some of the rap. Of course, when they found out he didn't have a license, and that she hadn't insured him to drive her car, he was done for everything they could pin on him which got him a ban that lasted for quite a while.
(They are still a couple, I'm sure she has the idea that people think well of her for "sticking by her man" and driving him around throughout his ban.)
