I recieved a roadside FPN back in June and have just received a summons (that can be dealt with by post) for it a couple of days ago. I know there are certain rules to do with the ammount of time you receive a NIP after an offence, but is there any time limit on the summons?

The reason it ended up been a summons by the way is that the roadside FPN was also a producer, I was pulled over in Wales and I asked to show my documents in Reading, I took the necessary papers in (or so I thought!) a few days later and they were refused as I didn't have both parts of my license, I had lost the paper part. Woman there said it would go to court, but I didn't expect it to be 6 months later!!

I'm sure I'll just take the points which is no real hardship but thought I'd ask on the off chance.

Cheers, Dan

As a guide note the date (A) of the FPN offence.

Look on the summons and if they are using the advised template then there should be an entry showing :

Date (B) Information laid.

If B is not more than six months from A then justice prevails and they have you.

Basically, as long as the information is laid within the 6 month period between offence date and laying the information, then the summons can be served even years later!
