Should motoring fines be means tested????
Discussion
By that, I mean is it fair that Richard Branson or Paul M'cCartney get fined the same amount as an eighteen year old university student for doing 50 in a 30....
Obviously three points on their licence would hurt just as much, (Well perhaps not as Richard Branson would be able to afford a driver if he got banned under the totting up procedure)

yes they should be means tested. If it doesn't hurt, what's the point?
Drop the fine altogether. Make it just about the points, total equality of punishment.
Are we talking about mere speeding offences? Well let's keep it simple; no fines and no points - and nowt else either!
OK guys?
Best wishes all,
Dave.

Agreed. Fines are a piss-poor way of punishing people - we all view, value, and earn money differently, yet the crime is the same. Fines are simply the result of too many lawyers making the law (and wanting pay-by-the-minute).
