Cycling on the footpath
By 2 community support officers demanding £30
Thought id cycle to town to save money on petrol and parking (and the TVR was overheading
)
Gave them a lecture on catching real criminals - particularly since i was cycling through a bad part of town, yea funny i dont see them when the bus stops are getting smashed up i told them. Not to mention the fact that it was school closing time and 200 yards down the road theres countless kids riding on the paths.
I told him i had left that school a couple of years ago and i knew there were much better ways their time could be used in the area. He said the area has improved recently and suggested that perhaps it was because i had left! - i could barely contain my laughter as i agreed with him and that its people like me on my pushbike really bringing down the neighbourhood.
Anyway he couldent find his ticked book so i got away with it - idiot
Whats the deal with these people - they dont have the power to arrest but i believe can detain me until an officer arrives - im sure that would make the local headlines if i had been carted away in a van for riding on the path!
Dont get me wrong cyclists can be a pain cycling down shopping arcades etc dodging around people. But this was an empty piece of path next to a fairly narrow busy road - hardly crime of the century.
I was considering cycling off quickley as i think i could have out paced them. Even if i couldent the only way they would have been able to stop me would have been to push me off and then i could at least have cried police brutality.
Never been stopped in such away in my life, bloody rediculous - i know its a cliche but FFS catch some real crooks rather than hounding the good honest citizens.

Will it deter you from riding on footpaths in the future?

Definatley not, especially when its much safer to do so.
Its the same kind of thing thing as speeding when the conditions allow - cycling on an empty footpath - doesnt do any harm to anyone.
And it can get you a ticket just like speeding can too (whatever the conditions).

But would you not begrudge getting busted at for example 63 in a 60?
Im not refuting the law, im just saying that they should be dealing with more important issues which im sure most people will agree with.
I would have kept you there until a ticket was brought to me if I hadn't got any and you had that attitude towards me ..... local communities absolutely hate people cycling on footways and want police to deal with it - they were actually doing their jobs and what the public want. We get loads of complaints that it gets ignored by police and is just the sort of thing PCSO's can deal with.
I have been to one fatal collision - on a not so busy bit of road - where the cyclist was on the footpath and clipped an elderly man as he went past. The man fell as a result and banged his head .... he died later that day. Unlucky I know.... and it is the only one I've been to, but it's simple .... use the road.
I cycle to work and use the road - I know other drivers can be intimidating but ride accordingly .... I won't use the footway.

TBH, if you're a community support officer, cycling on the pavement probably is an important issue

No wonder, according to the website they are on 16k basic with 21 days holiday, overtime and paid sick leave.
If i havent amounted to much in a few years i might give it a go - riding around all day keeping people off the pavement.

I don't know of anyone who is prosecuted for 63 in a 60.
I think they should have given you the ticket, I'd have considered it a good use of their time

I think that is his point?
I wasnt giving him attitude - just being sarcastic in a friedly way - parly due to the fact i genuinely couldent stop chuckling to me side at how rediculous the situation was - particularly in the context as i say earlier that is a bad area with loads of crime. We even had a chat about university as the guy did as similar course to the one im doing.
Obviously i had to explore all routes of escape - if i could get away then why not!?
Oh well ill take the TVR next time - then see if he can catch me

I consider this more important than 63 in a 60.

Then you much be either rich or ignorant to think thats a good use of you taxes.
I stopped because i am a good honest citizen - and thought they were real police at first, if i had mirrors on my pushbike i might had got a jump on them
