Let off at 87mph - nice one BiB
Discussion
Returned back late from a day trip to France yesterday.
Coming up the M20 towards M26 at about 10pm last night I set the cruise at an indicated 90mph as wanted to get home. About 15 miles later got pulled by BiB.
Very politely admitted to speeding and explained that was keen to get home after a long day. Provided all my paperwork (had it all with me due to driving in France) together with an apology. Ended up having a bit of a chat about my car, etc
BiB was very polite, no lectures, no stupid comments. Said I'd averaged 87mph but that my lane discipline was good, I wasn't driving aggressively towards other roadusers, the was very little other traffic about and conditions were good.
Checked all my paperwork and in the end issued a verbal warning for excessive speed and let me go.
Just thought I'd share given all the stick the BiB get on here. Have your paperwork in order, drop the attitude, be polite and think about actually apologising - you never know you may get lucky like I did.
Cheers.

No no no mate, you've got it all wrong. According to many here, what you want to do is take out a tape recorder, ask the Officer why he isn't catching real criminals, demand your copy of PACE and sit in the back of the car reading it for an hour, then ask for a witness for everything, refuse to sign anything, ask the Officer about his advanced driving qualifications and why he's picking on the driver of a flash car that he clearly couldn't afford on his wages.
Oh, and of course, post on here with a good whinge when you get home....
Nice to hear your story, good BiB using common sense. What motor was he in?

Now you're getting cynical in your old age...
We're not all like that, thankfully.

This is exactly what I have found every time I've been pulled by BiB.
Get out of the car first, take car keys with you, stand at the kerbside, polite, honest, no bullshitting = respect returned in full.

Do you also put your hands on the roof of your car, spread your legs and push your bum out?
couldnt resist....
Unforch when I got pulled under almost identical circumstances I got 3 points and 60 quid. I got out of the car, stood on ceremony and was totally polite. He made the same comments re lane discipline and attitude to other road users, absolutely no suggestion of being dangerous or agressive.
However, what was dangerous was standing talking on the side of the A11 with trucks thundering by at 65mph! I'd have thought about a million times more likely that we were both wiped out standing there than whilst driving about safely as we would have been doing had Lohn Law not been instructed to hand out speeding tickets.
Well done in your case though

In my experience (sorry, to be cynical!), they only let you off if they haven't actually measured your speed on their Vascar. If they have, YOU'RE NICKED; and it doesn't matter how polite or humble you are. I'm very much of the "Shouldn't you be out catching burglars?" school now.
Talking of Vascar, I suspect the readings are fixed anyway:
BiB1: "What do you reckon?"
BiB2: "93mph?"
BiB1: "Click..............click: 94, that'll do" (lights on...)
Prove me wrong!

LOL!
I think the police take a good attitude from the driver quite well.
When I got done 18 months ago they were almost apologetic.

However, One massive difference...you were on an "A road" and PS was on a "Motorway"!!

Just dont do that in the USA, they will shoot you.
I would sit in the car with the window down and wait for the oficer to tell me what to do. With the way ANPR is being used you may have been tagged as an armed and dangerous by mistake so could be getting out to a rather nervous officer, it's safer these days to wait and do what you are told to do.
Once pulled over for 80 in a 50 (middle of the night, no traffic, lit DC, straight road). I think the 80 was a guess not a radar. He also just gave me a talking to as I was apologetic, very open with the officer AND when the blues went on I indicated to pull over but waited for 200yds where there was a big parking space available. So I think it was a combination of acknowleding my mistake, apologising, and seeming to be sensible where I pulled over.
Also had one in similar circumstances (3 lane A40 near Greenford with nothing on the road at 2am) - he passed me and simply waved for me to slow down, I indicated a thanks and complied.
Traffic cops I have no problems with, they generally use good judgement from what I've seen (and discussed with them in the pub). We need more of them and less scameras. More trafpol = more attention to bad driving rather than speeding being the main priority.

I'm very much of the "shouldn't you be keeping your eyes open for police cars and those areas where they are likely to be patrolling" school now.
To try and maintain a sense of humour in the 24/7/52 grouse season on wheels, I believe the relevant offences are "failing to look in rear view mirror" and "failing to spot battenburged veehickle in sniper position".
If only the manner of the driving made more of a difference more often, not only would MoPs stay on-side but the roads would be safer.
PS, now you know your speedo 90 is actually 87
