While out walking my dogs last night I noticed that one of my neighbours has twovehicles with the same personalised registration number. They aren't even similar vehicles - one's a BMW 3 series, the other a Saab. I'm sure this isn't legal, but can't understand how it can have happened and why the owner would want to share a number between two cars.

Can't be legal.

Perhaps he is in the process of changing vehicles, and has transferred the personal reg to the new car but is waiting for a year-specific reg to put on the old car before he sells it? Only explanation I can think of.

Could it be that one of the cars is registered abroad, with that plate, and therefore *could* be legal?

Could one be, for example (off the top of my head), RAC3R and the other R4CER in fonts that make them look almost identical?
ie. different marks that are easily confused with each other and therefore look the same.

www.rac.co.uk/web/vehiclechecks/status_checks

That will at least tell you which (if either) is valid.

It's the Saab. Funnily enough I can see from my window that this is currently parked on the pavement outside the nieghbour's house, and the BMW is out somewhere.

Perhaps they're in the process of moving the reg number from the Saab to the BMW before selling the Saab? And stupid enough to put the same reg on both in the meantime...

Or maybe they just simply love their cherished number so much that they greedily decided to put it up on both their cars?
