Could any of the lads who post on here tell me the best way to make a formal complaint for harassment. Last night there was a dust up in Royston at one of the local pubs, rather than earn their crust the Herts BiB decided to pull my lad again because he was driving past in his BMW. He has been stopped so many times now that it has become a bloody nuisance

I have no reason to doubt your word, if you say there is a harassment problem then that's good enough for me.

But, just to play devils advocate for a moment, was he doing anything, however small, that might have attracted the attention of the BiB? On the one and only occasion that I have had cause to complain about our local BiB, something very small and insignificant was thrown back at me as justification for the fact that a patrol car had nearly run me off the road.

I shall be following this with interest, nobody should be victimised by the BiB purely on the basis of the car that they drive, (if they drive like a plonker, or whilst drunk/drugged then thats another matter).

That is an excellent question.

Bit of both, some plod have stopped him repeatedly and no, he was not doing anything he shouldn't and on this occasion the policeman actually admitted it was because of the car. It's well into double figures now.

Maybe, just maybe he's driving round in a car that is highly desirable to car thieves and they are just doing there job, if he's doing nothing wrong does a couple of minutes of his time really matter, he should get on first name terms with BIB's, it may come in handy one day!

I can sympathise with him, but agree with the "....get to know the Bib.....".

Many years ago when I was around 17 my father had the recently introduce Ford Capri 1600GT - real 'head-turner' in it's day.

I used to borrow it ocassionally to visit a girlfriend who lived about 15 miles away - didn't think my old mini would make it that far without breaking down and there was a bit more room in the back of the Ford

Used to get stopped regularly returning home in the early hours of the morning for no reason other than I was a youngster in a flash car. Took it on the chin and got to know the BiB over a few months and never got stopped again - even when driving 'enthusiastically'

Tell him to just dog it out for a few months until they get to know him and make sure he passes the 'attitude test' every time.

Just a 'routine' pull or collar felt charged/bailed? Wonder what the explanation is from the otherside?

Does this car have any of the following:

Massive alloys
Big exhaust
Tinted windows
Loud music
Skirts
Spoiler
Coloured headlamps
Respray
Silly plates
Old tyres
Dings/dents
Badgeless

Because if so, I'd say the police are probably pulling him just on the offchance. If however its a mint untouched model, then you've probably got grounds to complain.

None of the above, just a plain E36 coupe......oh and he did stick it for a couple of months once he'd passed his test, then a couple of years. He's 23 now

Has he always been pulled in the same car?

If so, maybe the last owner was a naughty boy, and the car is still flagged?

For God's sake Apache, what are you doing living in the land of the Godforsaken?
Get yourself and your bairns back up here and put sanity back in your life.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine over here. His solution was pop down to the local Garda station ask for the sergeant on duty. Produce his licence/tax/insurance and explain the situation. Never got pulled again.

Lads are only doing their job, but i know it can be annoying. Just think though how many annoying little scrotes in "flash cars" they have to deal with, they just see a yound lad in a nice car. Doubt its anything sinister!

Maybe you could pop down to the station with your lad!? Bib are humans too and have sons with nice cars themselves!

i used to regularly get stopped on my travels every weekend between angelsey and swansea (aaah, what roads!), the first couple of times it was routine, or i had a bulb out, but i kind of got to know the copper, and in the end he'd pull me just for a chat (must be a bit lonely sat in the middle of wales in the dark!), and a gossip.
it all went quiet for a couple of months when i changed my car, but i saw him parked up, so beeped my horn at him and waved, he didn't recognise me, so came charging after me with everything going and pulled me, and we had a bit of a laugh when he realised it was me. he used to have a rather gorgeous WPC with him sometmes as well.

who me ?

In my youth I drive a 3 Series BMW and was often stopped (once every couple of months at least). I got used to it. I was always legal and was quickly on my way. Not a big deal.

A young male driving an expensive car = scrutiny by plod. Just doing their job.

Agreed.

I had a black e36 M3 when I was about the same age. I used to get pulled every 2-3 months.

I have had a TVR, Mercedes and other cars and only ever pulled once in ten years of driving outside of the M3.

I think it is more than co-incidence!

Most were kind of innocuous - once for having my fog lights on, despite me just getting off a very foggy motorway in winter at night. I was half a mile away from the motorway and got a ticking off as the guy probably thought I was the type of prat that drives around with them on by default. Fair enough. The other time I was being directed by someone very drunk and indicated late to a junction. The BiB who told me they were trailing me for the last 4 miles pulled me.

As both of those times were at night, I guess the prerogative was really to catch a drunk driver. The only time where there was 'more' to it was where I was obviously and falsely accused of running a red light.

I think that car kind of 'alerts' BiB to it and their close scruitiny follows until they can justify the pull.

i advised my lad to jokingly say "if i was that way inclined i might think you were harrassing me officer" and make a note of shoulder number .
