A chap in Nottingham has decided to remove one of the red light cameras at the island just east of J26 (the one going onto the roundabout, westbound, onthe A610).

In the process of taking it off though he was reported to the police, who caught him apparently...and unconfirmed rumours say he's on for a criminal damage charge. He was trying to "remove the evidence" as he'd been caught going through the lights.

Will try to get a picture of whats left tomorrow morning!

I noticed that this morning. Mind you has to be one of the worst junctions I've ever seen - needed a flyover for years but they repeatedly dig up and patch on the cheap!! No wonder people jump the lights.

I prefer 'Old Nottingham Road', but not the concept of the 'Bus Plug' yikes

Another big problem there is that you can save 10 minutes using the wrong lane and then pulling away quickly at the lights...which is sure to cause accidents eventually. There are a huge number of traffic lights on that roundabout, with as many as 6 (I think!) lanes at one point - and yes, if they could put a flyover to join the M1 that could save some problems, but it would be a huge project - and it would remove the chance to catch people speeding on the last stretch to the M1!

Here's the piccy: -

What sort of punishment is the chap looking at?

rofl

No, not me, not even a "mate" - I think we should call this chap "Dick" (See PCoJ thread!).

Anyway, it wasn't me - I heard of the details on another forum, and given that it's one of heir members I can quite believe it. I didn't take the pic above, but I've taken one in daylight today that I'll post tonight.

It's funny, but it shouldn't be - and if he has any previous I think he might be looking at some soap on a rope time (there's similar cases), but I wonder what other people think about likely sentences??

Sentencing will certainly depend his plea(s), on priors & how good his solicitor is

Quite a few cases to reference to particularly in the Bristol/SW parts of the country as 'em camera burners have been busy fellas for years around that neck of the woods

For camera, at the worst, a short spell with the soap on a rope. Best, a heavy fine and pay compensation for camera.
Alongside, points for failure to stop at red light with fine & court costs.
