Last Opportunity for Court Summons
Discussion
Hi chaps - I know this has been answered to death but the search engine is down at the moment so can't search!! :-)
I got pulled by BiB for speeding in southern England and was also given a producer in Mid September 06. I subsequently produced my docs at a station in Scotland...and then received a summons for not producing and driving without insurance a few months later!! I then got the station I produced my docs to, to confirm that I had done it to the CPS etc and got that court summons cancelled.
It was a fixed penalty notice for 60mph in a 50mph zone...but I denied it and sent back the form asking for a court hearing. However, I have still not had a summons for the speeding offence.
IIRC, they have 6 months from the date of the offence to serve a summons on me. Can someone in the know please confirm this?
Cheers all,
J.

I've noticed that in a lot of situations (not just the law) if you do something then cancel it and re-do it then the computer systems quite often seem to lose you. I bought a computer years ago, sent them the cheque to pay off the credit but I forgot to put the credit account number on the cheque. So they destroyed it. I wrote another with the full details and I got a call from them saying it was OK, you've already sent a cheque (that they destroyed) so this second one is not needed!
I've noticed other situations where the do-it-cancel-it-do-it-again process somehow loses you in the ether somewhere. All we need to do is find a way to get this to work with the taxman

.Funny that you should say this.
About 10 years ago I was stopped by BIB and was given the usual fixed penalty notice, £40 + 3 points IIRC. (speeding on a 30mph two lane dual carriageway)
I sent a cheque to the central ticketing office a day before the 14 day payment deadline, however this was returned to me a week later with a letter stating that since I had not paid within the allowed 14 days, the option of paying the fixed penalty was no longer available. About two weeks after that, I received another letter saying that although there was enough evidence to support a conviction for my offence, they were not going ahead with a prosecution because it was not in the public interest.
Go figure.

perhaps there was insufficient evidence that would lead to a conviction in court! They would have been happy though to take your money, and give you 3 points, if you had taken the offer of the Fixed penalty whilst you were in time to do so.
