I wasinvolved in an RTA on thursday and police attended and gave me a producer for ins, license and MoT cert.

i do have ins, license and MOT, but cannot find the MOT anywhere! and i mean anywhere!

I havent had the car MOT'd myself, i bought it with an MOT, so do not know where it was MOT'd, and i do not have the contact details of the previous owner.

It was a pre-computerised version so the database etc are not helping me.

what are my other options, and what are the likely scenarios when i turn up on thursday with only 2 outta 3?!

i nipped down the station today to emplain my predictament, but they just kinda said look for it harder - as if i hadnt thought of that!

any prompt help most appreciated!!

Get it MOT'd tomorrow. Officer's discretion as to whether you will be prosecuted.

I thought the new computersed MOT's had been in for over a year now ? I certainly had my TVR MOT'd almost exactly a year ago - as it is booked in for 2 weeks time for another - and the current one is computerised .....

computerised MOT's have been in for well over a year. Perhaps not all garages hooked up at the same time?

VOSA's website says computerised MOT's came online in April 2005 with 'all'garages to come online over several months - even allowing for them being a little optimistic I think you should have had a computerised one by Jan 2006 ?

Copied from VOSA's website ......

"13-04-05 MOT Computerisation Goes Live

The roll out of MOT Computerisation begins on Monday 18 April 2005 following the completion of final field trials which have proved the functionality of the system. A redesigned operational roll out takes into account feedback from all the garages involved in the trials and is geared to ease the transition to the new system and a robust service. Roll out to the c19,000 MOT garages will take place over a period of several months."

ADvice.
There is no point being done for not producing what you have got.
Go to the station, within the 7 days,
explain the predicament, produce licence and insurance.
You will almost certainly be reported for no MOT/failing to produce.
Then try and track down copy of MOT or original, by whatever means.
DVLA records may assist.
If you get a summons for no MOT and you have found it by then,or DVLA records confirm the vehicle had an MOT, hoorah.
If not it is a minor offence and attracts no points. But for goodness sake produce what you have got!!

nb. please accept this is advice and not a definitive forecast of what will happen.

The old MOT could be on the computerised system. I had my daughter's car done a year ago (25 January) and that was on it, presumably one of the field trial garages. I have been going to them for years and they weren't very complimentary about the delays in introducing this system. The 2006 certificate is in front of me now.
Were the missing documents shuffled about at tax renewal time?

Did you tax the car?

If so - there may be a DVLA/VOSA record of the cert number - which can then be traced back to the garage.

In these days of ANPR - with Mobile Data on traffic cars, I would have thought that the producer would only be used for your licence and/or the V5.

The offence of not having an MOT doesn't carry a large fine.

However, will your insurance still be valid if you can't prove that the car was MOT'd?

You are in some stress. That ist why you cannot find them.

Sit down. Calm down. When calm... Just think of the likely places where you put them und methodically check them all out.

If you know address of previous owner .. get in touch. Very likely person who serviced car on regular basis also did MOT test.

idea Look at the service log handbook .. for date of last service. They may have done its MOT at the time. They will all give you a duplicate print out for a nominal fee.

you can go into any testing station for a copy MOT all you need is the reg if you know where it was tested and the reg and the V5 number if you don't - not sure but I think it costs a tenner
