What does the law say about radar detectors? Are they legal or not?

As far as I know, yes. But apparently they often only tell you when you've been zapped already.
I read in a few places that radar gets reflected by other traffic and such like, so the sensors can sometimes detect in advance. Don't know their true value tho....

Sounds like you are confusing radar detectors with laser detectors here!
My V1 (which does both) works just great in warning me of upcoming Gatso cameras by the use of Radar detection. The laser detector on it well it has only triggered a few times and luckily none of them related to guys with laser speed guns. Laser detection stuff is next to useless as far as I'm concerned.
I shall of course continue to use my V1 up to the point where they become illegal, whenever that happens to be.

Forget the detectors, if you can't see a day glo-orange box anlmost two feet square, 12 feet in the air you shouldn't be driving.

Laser diffusers are what to use, sorry, I meant Garage Door openers and Parking Distance aids. At least this way you are protected from the sneeky vans etc.

Protecting a school I haven't a problem with, the fact that it doesn't fit with guidelines in colour seems odd though.

Anybody who gets done there deserves to, as a school governor I've no sympathy, I just wished parking on the yellow zig zags was also an endorsable offence. Parking on pavements, on corners, stopping in the road to off load all seem to be permissible outside a school.
(Is there a specific highway code for road use outside a school? As the one I've got seems to be totally different to reality)

parking on zig zags is an endorsable offence I think (might be wrong though) TS10 ignoring a traffic signal

Are yellow (school) ones different from white (pedestrian crossing) zig-zags though?

I'm a school governor to and the last thing i would want is a speed camera out side the school. The school is on a main road to. Most people see the kids and slow down. A speed camera makes you look away for the road.

Anyone can be a school governor, as it's a voluntary role, so it does not make you any more qualified, or give you any more rights on what you think about speed cameras.
