Plain clothes plod?
Discussion
"This bloke I know" recalled a recent incident on the A3 near Guildford...
He was travelling in the outside lane of a reasonably busy dual carriageway at or around the NSL and in front of him was a rather dirty Mondeo hatchback finished in a silvery gold metallic on an '03 plate, with just the driver in it.
There were a repeated number of opportunities for the Mondeo driver to pull in and let the "bloke I know" past but he chose not to. So when the safe opportunity arises, "this bloke" signals and pulls into the nearside lane - thinking this might encourage the Mondeo to do likewise. Alas not to be. He does this a number of times over the course of half-a-mile and always remains behind the Mondeo. 'Middle-lane-moron' he mutters to himself.
Shortly; the slip road for "this bloke" to exit appears some 300m or so away and he then proceeds to pull into the nearside lane, accelerate and undertake the Mondeo. As he passes he glances across momentarily and notes a casually dressed driver. Once past, he looks in his rear view mirror to note that the driver is STILL in the outside lane, whereupon blue lights behind the grill alternate and headlamps flash repeatedly.
"This blokes" 'heart sinks' and he duly gestures to the
that he is going up the slip road to pull over. He checks his rear view mirror again and notes that although the lights are still flashing the Mondeo has not yet pulled over towards the now oncoming slip road. Once on the slip road he gesture again to
of his intentions but the Mondeo carries on at normal speed.
So whaddya reckon - considering the age of car (03) and its dirty condition...
1. 'Finger wagging' from plain clothes plod? OR
2. Joe public with some naughty extras?

I had a run in with one of these Mondeo's this morning - hope it wasn't the same one
"mate" could always speak with police and ask if they have an unmarked car with so and so plate on it...if they don't then they'll investigate (you'd hope!).

I did this once, locally. Was in front of a 4X4 which quite obviously had "blues" behind the grille.
Older car, quite dirty, and being driven by a bloke dressed in a rather scruffy t-shirt.
"Hmm, looks a bit funny" I thought, and remembered the local paper had recently had a story running about "bogus BiB" being seen around in cars with blues strobes.
As I was passing the local enquiry desk, (Shows how along ago it was. There are hardly any enquiry desks left!) I gave them the details of the vehicle and they quite happily ran a quick check on it. (Was a quiet day for them.....)
Their response was "Not an unmarked police vehicle, but it is an "authorised" vehicle and is OK to have blue lights fitted".
They didn't elaborate as to why it was authorised, but I suppose it could have been fire chief (off duty?) or similar.
If you have the details, its probably worth a punt getting it checked though, just to flag it up if it is a MOP with delusions of grandeur.
