Quick query (I COULD sit on the phone to my insurance company to find out, but I don't like call centres ...)

My car is awaiting being written off, and is sat on my drive going nowhere (but I haven't told anyone that yet, other than my insurance company). I will have my new car before that happens (at the glacial speed my insurer works). What do I have to do before I drive my shiny new one?

You have notified Insurance of crash......good.

You are getting a new car.

If you are thinking of transfering the Insurance from the old one, forget it IIRC the Insurance expires on write off.

Work with your Insurance Company to arrange new cover or seek new cover elsewhere.

How's the tax disc? Theoretically as Insurance Co write off it is their vehicle and as such Excise outstanding which is reclaimable is theirs.

VED expired - bang a sorn in just to be safe and also drop a line to DVLA to let them know write off. This could stop a load of mischief if the vehicle is repaired and comes back on the road or plates go iffy.
