this evening, while stood outside the ace, i witnessed an integra type r being pulled for gunning it away from a roundabout... as much as this was not legal, it was reasonably safe, as i'm sure anyone who has been to a night at the ace will tell you, it's pretty much expected... besides, they guy wasn't going "that" fast... the reason i'm mentioning this, is because earlier in the evening, the bib were sat behind a blue avensis on the same roundabout, the avensis had no number plate... the police did nothing... i'm stuggling to understand the logic...

Perhaps they had already pulled that vehicle? They were maybe en-route to an incident or had a prisoner on board or it was nearly time for refs and that sort of stop would have taken ages!

Really? A quick, "Oi, get that plate sorted laddie" takes ages? Would have been the best course of action IMHO, unless it had alread been stopped.

The stop would if done properly take ages. You should check the vehicle index, the chasis plate, the details of the driver and much more. If your going to stop someone you do a proper investigation. No plate could mean stolen vehicle or vehicle being used in crime or just had a minor rtc that it has failed to stop at. That's why I said that sort of stop takes ages.

And it taking too much time is reason enough not to do a thorough job, esp. when you say that no plate could be an indicator of further criminal activity?!?

Yet a (generally law-abiding) driver for accelerating hard IS a good enough reason for a pull?!?

I try and keep a balanced and logical approach on here w.r.t. the police, as it's easy to judge after the event (as many do). But that incident (as described, anyway) smacks of 'jobsworthness'.

I am of the opinion that someone who drives without a license plate, MAY be uninsured. He may drive recklessly and endanger life, because without a plate, it would be rather hard to trace him, even with Mr Gatso. So, I would therefore suggest that a more prudent use of police resources is to stop people like this, and deal with them.

So, we impound and crush the cars who have legal insurance and we are happy with that, but we let someone drive around with no plate on ?

People do like to quote out of context. Read my whole post and then you may realise the remark was tongue in cheek. Amazing how some post comments without all the information.

Yes, but your subsequent post Re: get driver details, look at vin etc.. still worries about it being a long stop. I am saying, I don't give a monkies if that sort of stop takes ages, I think it is a better use of police time that pulling someone who has accelerated from a roundabout.

It didn't read as tongue in cheek to me, but if it was meant that way, then I apologise.

Ok, taking your whole post - so as not to be seen to take it out of context...

So, because it would take time, you think it would be better to ignore, even though it is possibly a stolen vehicle being used to kill bunnies and children? Maybe I've missed the tongue in cheek nature, it just seems that "it's too much trouble"

That was my then response to someone asking why such a stop would take ages.

Is there any law against using all the acceleration available to you?

Is there any law against consuming the petrol you own doing so?
