Swiss upgrade speed cameras
New devices now catch you at over 180mph
Watch out when driving in Switzerland as there's a new type of speed camera around.
Not only is it completely digital and connectable to central processing agencies, it's capable of registering you at speeds of up to 300kph (187.5mph) -- the previous machines could only manage 250kph (156.25mph).
We don't yet know when the new device, the LMS-04 made by CES (Complete Electronic Systems AG) from Dübendorf, will be put into service but you'll find more about it on the company's site (see link below).

These are the same type of cameras that have been put up near the 'armco' cameras as per last weeks thread..

I live in near Geneva and they are getting increasingly common on the autoroutes (motorways).
I feel sorry for the tourists who don't know where they are and only drive through the country once/twice a year on holiday and are the most likely to get caught. The locals/commuters know where they all are - although they should really be painted bright orange to be fair.
Radar detectors and even GPS locators are banned here!
Thankfully, there are still loads of other great roads around where you can still enjoy a car. Cars themselves are cheaper out here (lower VAT rate) and so is fuel so we should be able to take the odd fine or two on the chin.
Say Cheese!

Any chance you could do us non locals a favour & go out at night armed with cans of Orange spray paint
Reminds me of the old "Spy vs. Spy" in the American MAD Magazine where one spy would develop a way of blowing the other one up and the other spy would have a way of countering it and blowing up the first spy. Just as police radar was followed by radar detectors and then radar detectors were followed by radar detector detectors and those were countered by...
Never mind! I've been done by 4 or 5 swiss cams in the past couple of years and never heard a squeek out of the authorities for it.
AFAIK there is supposed to be a deal with the French to pass on the fines but I got done three times in France on the run / from Italy last year and haven't heard anything. Tha b*stards change the speed limit suddenly and then there are about 5 or 6 innocuous boxes in the central reservation (forward facing) then the speed limit goes back up to normal motorway speed.
IIRC at this time you can only get the points applied to your license if you're caught speeding in Northern Ireland, or (ironically) the Isle of Man

So according to the picture you need the "hidden" sensor in the rail, but also the vissible camera?!

Yes. According to the attached document in English..
www.cesag.com/bilder_pdf/2006/12/lms_04_e.pdf
…the laser sensor can be mounted in the Armco, in a recess in a concrete barrier or, in an urban area, it can be built into the pylon that the camera is mounted on.
So at least there's a chance of seeing it before being fully scanned, followed and photographed. It's a bit like the local Tesco bar scanners on the tills.
So, I wonder if ya put vertical lines on the side of motor, it will just add the points to your tesco club card, and put you through as a tin of beans or something...!!!!

And your fine will come with personalised promotional material too...

...so you can then exchange points for some "desirable commodities" can you.
Does that result in (Speeding) "Points Mean Prizes" ??

How will the Swiss know where to send the ticket for a British registered car?
2 things :
1st) All these new cameras can be (only certains are) permanently linked to a police HQ, so as soon as you've been flashed, they receive the info with all the data and can send it to any patrols around you, and believe me, if you're above 180kph (112mph), they tend to mobilise very quickly to catch you, especially the closer you get to Lausanne (which is dubbed Lausanne-geles
, because of the way the policemen behave -> they are total psycho) 2nd) There's an increasing "collaboration rate" between the polices of Switzerland and other EU countries.
For example, one of my friends (we live in Geneva) was lent a car by his aunt who lives near Troyes (a bit south east from Paris, some 270 miles north from Geneva). You know that in France the last 2 digits indicate your "département", your county if you prefer (in the case of Troyes, which is in Aube county, the number is 10).
2 years ago, my friend was a bit careless about the parking (he was assuming that with a "10" french plate, the swiss police would never try to find the owner), and so, each time he found a fine on his windscreen, he didn't pay it. This went without problem for several months, till one day where he got his aunt (who is quite old) shouting on the phone : "you are a criminal ! do you realise I have the police in my house !? they gave me for 700 Swiss Francs (= ~320£ ) of fines ! what did you do with my car ?"
The story is "funny" in the fact that there was a total of 7 fines. Each fine is normally 40 SFr, but after 30 days, it's 30 SFr more only for administration fees... and there was an additionnal 30 SFr for each fine because of the "procedure" (understand the very complicate collaboration with french police)...
So, what was initially a total of 280 SFr fines became 700 SFr...
Why do I explain that ? because today, for driving on the motorway between 151kmh (~94mph) and 155kmh (~96mph) instead of the limit of 120kmh, you've already got a 600 SFr fine ( ~270£ ) . So for that kind of amount, I dare to think they will do the necessary with the british police to find you.

revenu = salary / jours d'emprisonnement = days in jail / bottom mention says you go to the judge
1st column = in cities / 2nd column = outside cities / 3rd column = motorways

Why worry - you dont get the fine anyway - i've bombed thru the existing ones and been flashed and have never received a fine...just need to not get pulled over (top tip is to go thru lichtenstein - they dont check your passports etc)!! of course the alternative is to go across the mountain passes and avoid the boring motorways. Even the locals are speed nazis on the m'ways - some guy in an ford sharan once blocked both lanes and shouted at me because i was driving too fast - very odd!!!
