Should I report an uninsured?
Discussion
In the apartment block there is a car with a 2005 tax disc displayed and no other. Would it be worth reporting them? I know she's an appalling driver and she genuinely terrifies me when I see her attempting to park - her car is littered with whacking great dents and I'm just concerned that something bad is going to happen.
On the other hand, what happens if the disc has just slipped elsewhere? Should I ring the DVLA?

No, police matter. Dial your non-emergency number.
Edited to say: That is, the insurance question is by far the more serious issue and a police matter. They can forward the details to the DVLA if it is insured but untaxed.

Just realised that I said they were uninsured in my title. I think I meant untaxed. Soo tired..
I meant to say, that if they are untaxed then they can't be insured can they?
Think I'm losing my marbles today.

no they can be insured but untaxed ,no tax doesn't invalidate insurance .

According to the DVLA website:
Make your report by calling the national untaxed vehicles telephone hotline
You can make your report by telephoning the enforcement telephone hotline. The freephone number is 0800 0325 202.
I have seen a few DVLA vans around my area recently, and seen a couple of clamped cars with huge "Untaxed Vehicle" stickers on the windscreen.

Dont snitch - my god your only lining Tony Blairs pockets - if she is getting away without paying those scum then good on her.
Is there any other way you could ascertain if she has insurance, ask her or get into conversation.
Perhaps you should inform her that her tax disk is out of date the next time she is at her car go out, start a conversation, get onto insurance talk and happen to notice her tax is out of date.
How long has it been since you noticed this? If its not long leave it a few more days as it may be in the post.

so I have six vehicles all taxed and it's OK for someone else to not bother and get away with it - they get reported end of story!
Its two years out of date. She's a liability and has amassed parking tickets from not even bothering to pick up a parking permit (FOC) so it begs the question as to whether she would bother with insurance. I'd rather be sure she has insurance and let the authorities deal wtih it. Not sure I could live with it on my conscience if someone was hurt and lost a great deal because she wasn't insured. Also it begs the question..is her car MOT'd? Is it actually safe?
I agree with insurance but she may have it, she may have MOT - she may even have tax and not put it on the window or done something really stupid like not realise she has to put them on the car or putting the new tax disk or disks at the back of the pile you seem to amass on your tax disk holder. If no insurance then fair enough everyone should have that. MOT well yes but roadtax is a waste of money and we as drivers never see a penny of it so whats the point. But beware if you set the vulchers on her then their going to find something, regardless of how small theyll find something and do her. This could cause somebody a lot of problems. She may even loose her car, she may be in financial difficulty. So remember no matter what the police say if you snitch on somebody for these admin things then you are responsible for what happens to them. And one would have to live with that forever.
Also if you do decide to squeal remember she wont get done with no tax or insurance if the car is parked on a private drive or a private car park. She would have a defence - so why dont you wait till she is parked in the street before you snitch.

What the F*** is wrong with people like you. You have no idea that she's not insured, how do I know you're insured, maybe we should all report every car we see because how do we know their insured.
Maybe we should all report every car we see doing 80 on a motorway because surely they're just as dangerous to other drivers as well.
Maybe we should report every driver that throws a piece of litter out of his window because surely they're not concentrating so they're just as dangerous.
So she hasn't paid her road tax so what, I suppose if you got a parking ticket or a fine you'd just pay & say thanks without even trying to get out of it,people like you make me sick.
There's a lot of things I don't pay for unless I have too & road tax isn't one of them, before you report me for having spots on my arse or something just as totally unrelated.
I wish people like you would stay behind your twitching curtains & leave the rest of society alone.
One more thing GET A LIFE!!!

How about simply engaging her in some chitter chat und bringing conversation around to fact that car can be seized und held to ransom ...pending document .. un crushed if not legitimate .. und there ist fine .. courts und so on... und tell her about the cameras being able to check this too with ANPR doo-dahs ...
Then .. if she does nothing after reasonable time .. then perhaps ist the time to pick up a phone...

Part of the conditions of many insurance policies is a valid road tax disc and MOT.
If the car has no insurance then it should not be on the road. From the OP's post It would be likely from the general lack of care attitude that this person pobably should not be on the road. Under the new system she would have been penalised unless she has done a SORN so its possible the cars not even registered to her or she may even have no licence. Personaly I would suggest notify DVLA and let them resolve it. That way if she smashes into someone else you know you tried. As for those on here personaly insulting you I would suggest that no insurance is a bigger problem than speeding and shows along with not bothering with road tax a lot about a persons attitude to society.

Vehicle insurance is not invalidated by an out of date Tax disk. Even if this appears on your policy the simple fact is that the insurance company would have to pay out regardless... If you were driving without an MOT then you may be in trouble as this could be seen to directly affect how roadworthy the car is.
Not sure what i'd do about this neighbour of yours. I'd probably just leave it, sooner or later he/she will probably get pulled over for it. Not sure I would personally consider this my business.
