The other day i drove past a transit vehicle parked on the side of the road which had "The Granite company" signwitten all over the vehicle and it was in black.

As i drove past i saw the top rear windows open as you would see on the police check vehicles.

Anyway today i got a speeding ticket through...... i didnt know they were allowed to be hidden.

Also it was doing 43 in a 30 (not a built up area, no houses or schools in sight from this road....before anyone comments on the speed)
It does not say what the penalty is, it is just requesting the name of the driver and then they will inform me of the penalty...... anyone know if this will involve 3 points or if it is just a fine..

3 points, £60.

Ask if they can get you a couple of flagstones or at least a nice kitchen worksurface for that.

You might want to let these people know about an infringement of copywrite (or whatever the relevant law might be!)...

I know round where i live (warrington) theres a few safety camera partnerships that have the names of local companies on but still in police livery. Like BNFL working with cheshire police, and i think it has the BNFL logo on it.
But it still does have the yellow and blue checkers on it.
It is a bit sneaky what the OP described though, are you sure it was that which got you and not something else?

Sue the police for copyright infringment and obtaining monies through deception.

I checked the Wilts Safety Camera Partnership's some time ago site after I received an NIP from a camera van located behind a hedge ( I saw it in my mirror as I drove past!).

The site's guidelines on camera usage and location states that they are simply guidelines and not regulations or rules, and that they can vary from time to time in response to operational requirements...or something like that.

Basically, they can do just as they wish.

I've never heard of nor seen camera vans that aren't marked with the SCP logo. Has anyone else spotted a "granite company" van, or any other disguised camera vans?

Pretty sure they can't do that.

Hence all the recent agro about declaring the position of ANPR vans.

The Code of Practice states: "Except in exceptional operational circumstances, devices should normally be operated from positions where they will be clearly visible to the public." Note this is not limited to "drivers" - Streaky

I passed one yesterday evening (thankfully from the right side) - Kenilworth road on way into K'worth, just as it becomes a 30 (hence targeting the 40-zone). White transit-type van, small writing (can't remember what it said, but was only legible from right next to it), windows open at the back. Not 100% if ANPR or LTI, but was an 'OMG, what speed am I doing?' moment, as I knew there was a 30/40 change around there but had only just joined the road, and was driving to conditions, not to a number on a pole (and no, there isn't a 30 reminder at the junction...should be). Looked down, saw I'd only got to 25 by that point and then looked up and saw the 40 marker, which was a relief. But I did think 'sneaky gits'.

So this must be 'operational circumstances' then (what b'll'cks!).

I believe Scamera Practice Directive 1.2.8 clearly states

"Camera's shall be placed anywhere which generates substantial revenue"

1.2.9 goes on

"If Camera earns less than £1,000 per hour, then see 1.2.8"

1.2.10 finalises with

"Under no circumstances place these valuable revenue generators where lives may be saved unless 1.2.8 clearly applies"
