Watch that. Well worth seeing all the way through.
Now tell me if you suspect that a bit of vigilante action was going on there, because thats what I thought.

looked like som dogey bad driving too me. There was no need to hit the truck. There truck had its indicators going for ages and It was clear what it was going to do. he should have lifted of the gas as soon as the truck stated moving across.
looks like he fingered he could blast buy in time and fluffed it up.
he should have known a mop in the HGV could have missed him in mirrors at that speed.

Lorry driver was a total idiot. There was nothing to the left of him I could see. WTF was he thinking? However I could see that Lorry drifting over to the right well back from it. PC Langley should definitely been on the brakes earlier. Obviously this is with the clarity of hindsight - and I'm sure PC Langley would now agree.
The second prang, however, was as a direct result of the officers driving over "refuge" areas. It is an offence for a civvie to do so and hence they are filled with whatever has been thrown up by passing traffic. If the cops are going to continue using these spaces I think they seriously need to consider fitting run flat tyres. Its no good rushing to save someone if you kill either yourself or someone else on the way! More could be done to prevent the kind of spin we saw.

Indeed. I don't know that, with the artic's indicator continuing to flash and the vehicle's continuing to move to the offside without interruption, that carrying on regardless was the smartest thing to do.
It's fine to tell off the artic driver for failing to use his mirror, except that, whilst in the bend, the driver's side mirror was not visible from the police car, which means that the police car was not visible to the driver.
The artic driver could and should have also used his nearside mirror, but it is less instinctive to do so, and he didn't. This was a rental vehicle - how experienced was its driver?
The BIB was simply presuming, because artics are not allowed to use the 3rd lane, that this one would not do so - despite clear evidence that that was just what it was about to do.
Too many things of which the BIB failed to take account. The job of any driver is not only to look after his own driving, but to anticipate the errors of others. This should be especially true for a Class 1.
HGV incident was poor anticipation by the BIB.
He should have lifted off the gas & applied braking earlier.
AND why the hell didn't he move over to the left, instead of squeezing himself between the lorry and the barrier?
FFS....I find many HGV vehicles in the 3rd lane & won't budge until they have completed their illegal overtaking!!!
Don't tell me the BIB haven't come across them!!!

the lorry has just passed a big sign in the central reservation saying road narrows, and is still indicating right as he's approaching a roundabout, the copper should have seen all these signs as well, so it wouldn't be too hard to put 2+2 together and assume the the HGV is turning right, so will continue accross to the right hand lane.
as has been said before, its a curved road, so there's a good chance that the HGV driver couldn't see the copper approaching at high speed, and yet the copper still tried to go down the outside, when it was clear from quite a way back what was going to happen.
then the copper has the cheek to say to the HGV driver "you should have anticipated my actions".
ys the HGV driver moved over maybe a little early, but that collision was entirely avoidable.

Couple of things to add..........
HGV driver clearly saw the roundabout sign and intended to turn right. However he missed the "road narrows on right" sign. He wouldn`t have seen BiB in o/s mirror, however, he should have picked it up from way back. BiB should have considered that the heavy driver may be unfamiliar with the area.
BiBs attitude was not good (appreciate that he had been involved in an accident and hence the adreneline was running)
Both drivers at fault IMO. Incidently, is it really necessary to travel at 130 just to catch a speeder?
Plus what was the cameraman doing wandering about on the hard shoulder - thought pedestrians were not permitted?
2nd accident was totally self inflicted. Lucky he didn`t take some other poor sod out with him.
Question for BiB. At the end of a motorway where it ends at a roundabout and there are three approach lanes (example would be the spur off the M27 heading into Southampton), is it illegal to use lane 3 if you are turning right?
I remember the words from the Roadcraft DVD by the skidpan instructors.
"In the heat of the moment, the red mist decends..." or words to that effect.
Basically: what would have appeared to be a perfectly reasonable and logical response to that hazard (either braking earlier or moving left to pass the lorry on the left) could be overlooked when "in the moment".
Even professionals make mistakes. It's very easy for us to sit behind our keyboards and judge him, how many of you here have been in the same situation and acted perfectly? No one?

Incident #1. The BiB took a huge risk and lost. It happens.
A 70+mph speed differential with an HGV? Doesn't leave you many options does it?
If I was the HGV driver, I would have used my drivers side mirror, seen the road was clear (it was), indicated, changed lanes and then thought "Where the hell did he come from?".
Incident #2. Having a tyre blow at 120mph must be pretty darn scarey. I love the bit where he goes "Aaarghh" and then "Ooooohhh".
Very glad no one was hurt.
