No dirty thoughts pls

Okay one for the plod I have a landrover 90 which is basically a mecanio for grown ups. It is currently a hard top/van but i am thinking about removing the roof and turning it into a soft top in the summer.

Now technically i should have it SVAed when the body type changes now i am not going to bother to SVA the car every time i swap the tops over. This isn't the same as putting a hardtop on a convertible as i am actually changing part of the body

So if discovering this would you likely make a huge issue of it or would you ignore it?

There is no problem doing this because the 90 does not have a monocoque construction, i.e. the body is not part of the integral strength of the vehicle because it has a separate chassis, it is merely bolted on.
You are probably aware already that the roof is just bolted on too and can be removed with a spanner.
I would strongly advise you however to fit a roll bar bolted through to the chassis if you do this, as there is utterly no strength in a Land Rover body shell.

Agreed.

I wouldnt worry about the BiB. I would have thought the insurer may be more of an issue.

I would get in writing from them that you would be insured. Of course, their ideology is that convertables are more stealable/desirable and even though it may be silly to take it to this extent, their 'claims' department may use it against you should you ever need to claim.

I think the chassis is the key component in a LR of your type. The bits that bolt onto it are fairly incidental as far as the DVLA are concerned.
It's only when you start to make major changes to the whole lot in one go that things start getting bureaucratic.

Have a quick peak here:

insurance no problems as it is a speaclist insurer who are happy with silly mods

As to the rollcage already have a safety devices external cage which is hard as nails but probably going to mount internal cage also for mounting belts when in softtop mode. Rollcage is needed as i trail it alot and have come close to rolling a few times

more interested in what i am libel to get when in encounter a plodsworth like maybe VH wavey

I never had any problems doing this with an old Series 2 - but that was a pick-up, not a van.

Is the body type shown on the V5, or whatever they call it now?
