It was lucky I was running late tonight as I pulled into the layby of my daughters house I'm greeted by the site of a jack knifed Nissan double cab with a fuel bowser. The neighbours are on the phone to all of the 999 crews. I go to check on drivers condition, I'm expecting the worse as he's managed to crash into a telegraph pole, snapping it and push it out of the ground at the same time yikes. He's fine the lucky barsteward, just appears to be in extreme shock or very dazed. Until I take a breath and from the smell realise he's not had a couple of drinks but is absolutely ing wankereddrunk he didn’t even realise what he had done.
Thankfully the BiB took him away fairly smartish and hopefully he'll not see his license for a few good years.
Why do people still insist on drunk driving I don't mind people having one drink and then driving but to have so much that you don't no what your doing his ing insane.
Anyway an eventful night, which I'll polish off with a glass of Merlot.

Some fool was saying on Radio 2 this week, that it's more dangerous to talk on your phone whilst driving than it is to drink drive.

One drink is still legal and I for one will often drive after one drink but nono more than one. I've yet to kill, maim or cause an accident by doing this.

quite right, sadly most people do not know when to stop, best thing would be zero tolerance with d&d

agree in theory - no alcohol and zero tolerance but, what of the morning after the night before.....?

But, does having a hangover mean you are still over the limit? Does not having one mean you are okay to drive?

Its dilemmas like these that make me happy I can walk to work

if you don't kick the arse out of it the night before you should be ok to drive, don't get me wrong, I love to get merry as much as the next person, I just hate to see people ruin their lives over something so stupid as having "one" more for the road, and more importantly, ruining someone else's life.

I agree. Personally if I'm driving, I won't touch alcohol at all. However, in the past (in previous employment) I am fairly certain I have been over the limit when driving to work the following day and, being in a rural area, public transport would not have been an option. Doubt the boss would have accepted it as a viable excuse either!

Like I said, its thankfully not a judgement call I have to make nowadays.

I think most of us have been in that position at one time or another, hopefully as we get older we start to realise the consequence of our actions...

The drink drive subject has been done to death on here. Yes one pint sociallt over a period of a couple of hours is fine one unit of alcohol leaves your system per hour so theres nothing wrong with this. Saying the drink drive limit should be zero is nonsence as you will still have traces in your blood stream for many hours. It would be extremly hard to police.

The man tonight whos ony victim was a telegraph post should be banned from driving for a very long time. I have no time fr people driving pissed and if I see anyone attempting to do this in th bar I will have a word.

He may have a point. I'd rather drive with a pint down me, than drive holding a phone to my ear.

It would be no more difficult to police than the current limit surely? The 'one pint socially' is all very well but, if people couldn't legally have that one social pint and drive, they would be less likely to get a taste for it and have social pint numbers 2, 3 and 4 before getting behind the wheel. Not everyone does this I know but, it only takes one...

So what you're saying is that because a minority of drivers cannot control themselves, we should make the limit zero?

Why should the majority suffer because of this minority? Wouldn't it be better to just police the current limits?

What im refering to is the fact that 18 hours later (after a rather heavy session) that is 18 hours without a drink, I was once breath tested andit showed a trace I was wel under the limit (I hadn't rouched a drop for 18 hours, but their systems are sesitive so it showed up. If the limit was ZERO then I would have been guilty of drink driving? not having had a drink for 18 hours. I think this just adds to the difficulties in policing.
