Bus lane restrictions...enforcable by camera outside London?
Discussion
Used to be that London was the only authority allowed to use cameras for Bus Lane enforcement but things have moved on:
The Road Traffic Offenders (Additional Offences and Prescribed Devices) Order 1997 amended section 20 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988 to add offences relating to the abuse of bus lanes to the offences to which that section, which deals with the admissibility of certain evidence, applies.
It also prescribes bus lane cameras as devices which may be used to produce evidence under that section.
As far as Nottingham is concerned, they are listed under The Bus Lane Contraventions (Approved Local Authorities) (England) Order 2005 so that they are an authorised Authority under the The Bus Lane Contraventions (Penalty Charges, Adjudication and Enforcement) (England) Regulations 2005 (S.I. 2005/2757) made under section 144 of the Transport Act 2000 and which provide for the enforcement of bus lane restrictions through the imposition, by approved local authorities, of penalty charges in respect of contraventions of such restrictions.
In essence this offence has been decriminalised allowing the LA to deal themselves, detect by camera and issue PCN instead of Police FPN.

Hi all,
Quick question - are bus-lane restrictions enforceable by photographic evidence outside of London (specifically Nottingham), or does it have to be a copper pulling you over and giving you an FPN?
Cheers,
M.

Manchester's got'em - so, no, it doesn't have to be a copper.
