I'm sure that this has been asked before but do these vans catch bikes?

I went past one today and I'm really not sure if I was on the limit or just over when I noticed the van. It was a 60 limit dual carriageway.

If I was over and zapped, how do they then take it further?

There were a couple of police cars just beyond the van and they'd stopped a few cars but no-one flagged me down.

Do I have a nervous 14 day wait now just in case?

It sounds more like ANPR than speeding if you had Police pulling people over further down the road.

Only if you had a front number plate glued to your jacket. If it was forward facing they have no way of getting you other than for the police at the time to have stopped you.

Thanks for that - I'm normally very observant but, following a car with L plates doing 50, in the outside lane for ages (with nothing at all in the inside lane) I was just about to seriously consider undertaking, when the two nattering women in the said car simply swopped lanes without indication or warning, so off I went past them and away...

Just as I got past, I then noticed the camera van about half a mile before the fixed Gatso camera heading towards sunny Widnes.

Hopefully then all is well!

I was taking it very steady across the cat and fiddle road between macclesfield and buxton, as I approached the scamera van near the cat and fiddle pub about 4 or 5 bikes came hooning past me. Two of the bikers pulled massive wheelies as they went past the forward facing van. It made my day hehe

The lasers do work in both directions but the operator would have to get your speed, leap into the front seats to photograph your number plate and then try and prove that the two unrelated images contained the same bike. You said there were police cars present, in which case it was ANPR. The plod only stop you if you've done something illegal (as opposed to going faster than a number on a stick)!

a lot of camera vans have cameras fitted to the windscreens in areas where there is a problem with bikers

That's certainly the case for permanent camera installations but does not necessarily hold true for the roadside scammers..

I'm aware of plenty of cases where a biker has been pinged head on by a scammer. If biker is indicated to be travelling above the enforcement speed threshold, then the scammer (if they can be bothered) simply jots down the registration details as the bike passes the Talivan.

Biker then likely to receive NIP in due course..

Here in North Wales, they have video cameras in the front of the vans to catch motorcyclists' number plates.
