Section 52 question
Discussion
The boyfriend of a girl I work with was stopped for speeding last night.
One officer in a Skoda who told the lad that he estimated his speed as 45 mph (30 zone BTW) and gave him some sort of producer.
He then said to the lad that under section 52 if he was caught again the police would take his car and he would have to pay to get it back.
I have never heard if this so can anyone give me more info - won't be using it to get him out of trouble 'cause he's a little sh1t and drives like an idiot.
Couple of things to bear in mind before replying - information is 2nd hand and girl in question is not the brightest person I know, it could be section 21 for all I know!

I think they're probably referring to section 59 of the Police Reform act, which gives the Police powers to seize vehicles if they're being used in an anti-social manner. The driver has to recieve a written warning first, and then if the anti-social use continues, they can take the vehicle away.
If the bobby hasn't booked the lad for that speed, I'd hazard a guess that he was using the threat as a bollocking aid, especially if he hasn't recieved a written warning.
It won't be a bad thing to let him think the Police can take his car away if he keeps on driving like a plonker though.
