Laser detector law
Discussion
Section 18 Road Safety Act 2006 defines it as:
""speed assessment equipment detection device" means a device the purpose, or one of the purposes, of which is to detect, or interfere with the operation of, equipment used to assess the speed of motor vehicles."
and adds it to Section 41 RTA 88 (Con and Use prohibition)
Section 18. is at yet not in force as no commencement Order has been made so far...............but no doubt it will be coming.
It will not effect your Sat/Nav system that shows the location where Dick Turpin is operating but will proscribe devices that pick up the signal is use to act as a warning.

If we had specs as woolly as that in my industry there would be total chaos. "One of the purposes" of my driving glasses (which are a device) is to look out for Gatsos etc. So I won't be allowed to wear them?
As it's late I'll make if brief.
I have said before, I 'know' a man that will fit a legal 'parking sensor' to your car.
It is EU approved, he tells me it is the only one that is EU approved.
Good job I don't get paid for selling these - 'cause no one seems to follow it up - everyone wants one but no one seems to ask me where they can get one.

Perhaps that’s because people know they will be screwed if caught using one. You really have to go out of your way to successfully jam a lidar speed meter, not something your typical garage door opener can be expected to achieve, especially from several hundred meters away! A fight in court will end up with you losing if you go up against someone who knows and understands the details (someone like me). Besides, the LTI is designed to detect for such interference, if found it will inform the operator (E07).
What exactly do you mean by "EU approved"?

Errr thats complete & utter rubbish, LTI's are the simplest easiest things in the world to "jam" all you get is a zilch distance/speed reading or only E03 codes which they get all the time!. From the testing I've seen when working with the BBC if you can target something with an LTI you can jam it from farther away all the time every time. The most fallable devices I've ever come across bar the ultralight which is quite frankly a joke. The Kustom Signals Prolaser III is however a different beast all together.
There's also a device "out there" that is linked to GPS that simply sends back the correct speed for the road your on. Damn clever bit of kit apparently its sold in South Africa or somewhere.
Obviously all this stuff is now or soon to be illegal, though I'd be interested to see what a court would think of a device that can be told to give out a chosen speed signal remotely.
Interesting. In that case a few people must be driving round the UK with some really poor quality jammers.
Were the jamming tests done with the US or UK Ultralite?
I don’t dispute the working range of a working jammer, but you must realise the instantaneous power outputs between a proper garage door opener/parking sensor and a jammer are several orders of magnitude apart.

I've just spent 20 mins writing a reply and then delete it.
I don't know if it's legal (and frankly I don't care) and I don't know if the guy is telling me the whole story - but at £300 if I needed one I'd have a punt.
No idea about the EU thing - but I trusted what he said to me and I'm a old git/suspicious/cynical person.
