Stopped by 'Mistake'
Discussion
Had a laugh the other day. I am working a short contract in Ireland and drive to/from work. There is a new piece of road recently opened, dual carriageway with the kerbside lane marked as a bus lane. The other day two local Traffic Gardai (police) were doing a stop and check on traffic in both directions, stopping about 10% of vehicles.
At the time I was driving along the bus lane and got stopped. First question from nice police man was 'Do you know the rules of the road?' My reply was 'Yes, and the bus lane is not in operation according to all the signs so I am free to use it'. Policeman goes a bit red, says' Er yes, correct. Have a nice day' and goes away.
Perhaps I should have asked him why he did not stop everybody else as I was the only one using the correct lane..........

Happened to me in Wandsworth one evening some years ago (and previously posted here). I was driving along the marked bus lane, ahead of me was a young bobby speaking to the driver of a small van he'd stopped. I signalled to pull out of the lane to go around the van and received a clear indication from the bobby that I should stop behind the van. I did, and the constable came up to me and asked if I knew I was driving in a bus lane. I replied that it had ceased to be such about five minutes previously. The officer reddened and checked his watch. Then he told me to "P155 off, I'm going to do this bugger for something!"
- Streaky
- StreakyI was leaving a football match a couple of years ago when a WPC ran out in front of me with her hand raised, (I wa only doing 5 mph in a queue btw). She said "Do you know its an offence to have your fog lights on in normal weather conditions?". As I didn't have my fog lights on I couldn't resist answering, "yes I do know that". She then switched into 'deal with smart arse' mode and started to take my car details.
So I asked her politly to stand in front of the car. I then switched my fog lights on, much to her embarrassment! She scuttled away apologising! (It was a Honda with the good old Japanese side lights fitted).
