I've seen people driving about with NO number plate on the front for weeks on end, so you should get away with a stick on until you bump into a very bored bib.

No, number plates must meet the British Standard requirements and we are not aware of any self-adhesive number plates that are able to meet these requirements.

Some people claim to be selling stick on plates that DO meet the requirements, but whether or not that makes them legal I have no idea.

I'm going to use one on my kit car though, hopefully it won't attract attention if it's otherwise legal (ie properly spaced etc).

Stick ons are illegal, as most are non-reflective, and do not have BSI mark.

most stick on plates i've seen are reflective. my local motorfactors sells them for about £2.57, and then 20p a letter.
i had one on the nose of my kitcar (see profile for pic) for over 15 years, and despite being stopped by plod quite a few times, it was never mentioned.

yes, technically they are illegal, but i think you'd have to be unlucky, or have a copper in a real bad mood to get done for having one.

3 years now and not a single tug. Have a full size legal plate on the rear.

I've had a stick on plate on the front of my kit car for four years with no problems at all. It's a full size plate, correctly spaced, but it is nearly horizontal on the top of the nosecone. Geoff.

Technically, the numberplate should be vertical, the correct size, colour, font, spacing, and be reflective. now the proper stick on plateds that you can buy from motor factors & caravan dealers etc, do conform.
If you wish to go without, mount horizontally (or as near as damn) space incorectly, use the wrong size or style of font, then yes, you are committing an offence. If you don't / haven't got stopped, then your luck is in......yet!
Be aware, that the thoughts of the BiB is that ;.....if the driver will blatently commit 1 offence, then he's probably committing others, that makes you a prime target for a pull.
