Will I appear on 'Police, Camera, Action'?
Discussion
Yesterday, driving along the M4 between J16 & J17, I saw the local scamera van parked on a bridge over the motorway about 100yds ahead. As I was driving in lane 1 at just under 70mph (not in any hurry, you see), I continued at my current speed.
A Clio was in the middle lane just ahead of my offside front wing, driving just a little faster than me, having just overtaken me.
Suddenly, he weaved a little, and swung left, straight across my front, braking hard at the same time, causing me to brake sharply to avoid a collision!
He then waved an (apparent) apology to me after I sounded my horn as he then saw me in his mirror.
This was (I assume) a result of him spotting the camera van on the bridge.
He was in no way exceeding the speed limit, but the shock of seeing the van was enough to make him panic, nearly causing an accident.
This could have been another KSI statistic which would certainly have been used in support of the use of speed cameras at this location.

Why did you sound your horn? Is it connected to a deathray?
Ho bloody ho!
Nope - it's meant to be used as a warning of your presence (although you might well be familiar with using it at 11pm after dropping off a friend as a way of saying goodnight - and not care about waking up the neighbours, but that is not what it's meant for!)....anyway, that is why I used it. After all, the bloke hadn't seen me, and I hit the button in the hope that besides taking me avoiding action by braking, the audible warning might possibly help avoid an collision.
