I have been "umming and arring" on whether to post this on here, or the biker forum. But thought it was appropriate to post here as it was the police attitude and knowledge that made today the best 30 quid I have ever spent! And that includes drunken nights in Asia!!

Seriously - to any bikers out there - no matter what your skill level, or what type of bike you ride - get yourself along to your nearest Bikesafe if you have not done so already. I did it at the Warren in Bromley with the mets - and have had the best days riding I have probably ever had. TFL subsidise the course - so it is only 30 quid.

It was so nice to have a day on the bike without having to worry about speed cameras, or policemen! We spent the entire day riding at appropriate speed, rather than an arbitrary limit. I don't remember looking at my speedo apart from when leaving NSL for 30 limits, and I feel that I rode quicker (and more controlled) that I have ever done so in my life. Also the look on the old biddys faces as we went through the country and they then saw the policeman in the middle of a GSXR750 and GSXR600 in 2nd gear at 10,000 to 14,000 revs was worth the money alone!

Been thinking about doing this, as its several years since I did my IAM teat, and I'm looking to see how many (bad?) habits I've picked up over the years.

Anyone done it in West Yorkshire?

Although I'm not a biker I think this is a great idea - anything reasonably cheap like this that might save one or two from injury has got to be worth it. Good to see the police doing something constructive too - good on them.

Smiler.

In all seriousness - what is needed is a "carsafe" scheme....... I believe this would help reduce the number of accidents considerably.

I would have to agree. Sounds like a good idea - I'd do it for £30...

You can go to the IAM for not much more.

The problem with IAM is that they do not accept anyone with more that 6 points on their licence - at least they didn't approx 2 years ago. My ex bought me an IAM "course" for about £70 - but when I tried to arrange it - the points thing came to light, and I had to get a refund.

Seemed strange to me - as I would have assumed that people with points would be the ones they would want to teach....... although I suppose that is no longer true with the way points are handed out like free newspapers now.

I got the refund and booked wheelie school instead. Great fun!

That is a bit strange.

I've got 6 currently (due the fascist scheming......ahem, well anyway). I try to drive in a way that I would expect others (even more so since getting the short ban 20 months ago) but I'm sure there are some subconscious and unintentional nasty habits I could do with getting rid of. £70 is pretty reasonable.
