wifey got a Nip for a speeding offence, on a day when I was using her car, (to check over some issue on starting) and has sent it off with my name (rightly, because I had the car that day).

So in the next week I'll get a NIP. Now I'm not saying that I wasn't in that place at that time as I occasionally do use that rat run, but I'd like to see the video/ photographic evidence before I pay up, if only to scan into my computer and use as a screen saver. On getting the NIP, I don't want to say I was driving, but there does not seem to be a space for "Send me the Photo and I'll see if it was me" I mean someone might have cloned her number plate.

So simple question, how do I make sure any responce does not cost me more ?

opt to go to court and plead guilty!

should still only cost you £60 plus maybe £30 court costs.

What would happen if you plead "not guilty" to enable you to see the photos then changed to "guilty" if you got the pics and it was you?

Just ask for photographs to "help identify" the driver.

They aren't compelled to, but most scammers will.

You can use that to look for any inconsistencies (lamp posts in the way etc) that could enable you to enter a plea of not guilty.

My cousin was scammed, she wrote to them explaining that as a few members of her family used the car, unless the photo positively identified the driver, she could not supply a name, as to do so would be either 'perverting the course of justice' or, if taken further, 'possible perjury'!
She didn't hear from them again!!

The NIP I got last June said in big bold letters something like 'You may not request the photo, doing so will not extend the time to reply. If you want to see the photo you will need to go to court.

Nice people.

they do not issue photgraphic evidance anymore, when the NIP comes through it will contain a website address with a special code for your offence and all the details/photo's will be displayed on the website along with the calibration certificate, although if the photo was taken from behind it still wont clarify who was driving but will clarify if the vehicle has been cloned

Write back and suggest that you were not sure who was driving that day and would they please send you copies of the photos to help you identify the driver

I asked for a copy of the video of my 'alledged' offence to be sent to me, but the 'Doris' on the other end of the phone told me they couldn't because of the data protection act or something or other, then told me that it wouldn't be fair on the other drivers of the vehicles in shot to have photography of them sent out by post to other people even though they'd already posted pictures on t'internet!

I had to go to the (s)camera partnership office to view the video there.

Even though the law supposedly states that you are allowed access to the evidence prior to plea...
The system makes me sick. If only we all had the courage to go not guilty at the same and watch the meltdown.
