Hi - wondered if anyone here could clarify the law regarding the fitment and use of seatbelts in my 1978 Series III Land Rover?

It has three seats in the front, of which only the two outer ones are fitted with belts, plus two sideways facing bench seats in the rear that could reasonably accomodate four passengers. The rear seats have no belts.

I am assuming (dangerous, I know!) that since this is the way Land Rover constructed it in 1978 and that: a) it was legal at that time and b) it has not been modified in any way, that I can carry passengers in all seven seating positons and they should use the belts as and where fitted.

Thanks in advance....

Top of my head you understand.

Seat belts refer to your aged vehicle as those appertaining to forward facing seats, the driver and the farthest away from the driver in the front.

No requirement for rear side facing seats or the cubby box.

I understand that an amendment was forth coming for 06MY Defenders and the like so that belts had to be provided in the back and this was not liked by LR. For sure my old 04MY defender didn't have them in the back but did in the front.

Go greenlaning down VOSA site and get it direct from the horses mouth or from a puker LR Dealer.
