Heh, whoops. Slight monkey by me.
Got my "tax your car form" early this month, and tried to do it. And discovered that you cannot do it until the 15th.....
...so it was filed in the pile of bills and stuff....
...and I've just found it. :/
So, no problems thinks I, I'll do it now.
Go to the website.....

Could they have done this at a more useful time perhaps?
So, assuming I get this done tomorrow AM, I should be OK - but I'm leaving it a bit fine. Yes, I'm an idiot....

It would be best to get one from a Post Office tomorrow as I'm pretty sure that you can be fined for failing to display a valid disk even though you have paid online for one.
Their site says about 5 working days to receive the disk, though I've received mine within two days.

Indeed yes, fortunately I bike to work and the car comes out at weekends - but point taken.
I'm more concerned about the automatic fine for not taxing or declaring SORN.

They usually gove it 14 working days after yous expires before a fine is whacked out.

I am just about to purchase the tax online and I clearly won't be receiving it by tomorrow so it looks as though I will have to store it away in a garage somewhere until the new tax disc arrives.

Just print out the confirmation page and the e-mail the DVLA send you and keep them i the car until the disc arrives.

Can you not ring the inssurance company and get the details off them so you can apply online?

Mine have always turned up within a couple of days and once the next day so you might be lucky.
Just like FPN's allow you to just fill in your credit card details the system has become alot better for getting your cash. My car was MOT'd on the last day of the month before the tax ran out and within 2 hours the system allowed me to get a disc. I think VED is an outdated con but at least the system seems to be pretty good and avoids half an hour at the post office.

You can do this however it will do nothing to stop you getting done for failing to display a tax disc which is a seperate offence to failing to have a tax disc.
I managed to request a next day delivery for my insurance certificate so that should be with me before 1pm tomorrow then I'll then pop down to the post office and get my tax disc sorted.
The car is now off the road and in a garage so it won't get crushed (I have seen a flatbed with a crane on the back slowly cruising passed the car a few days back!!) but I may get a fine unless they give me two weeks grace or realise the fact that I tried to purchase tax online but it wouldnt allow me to.
I'll let you know how I got on.
Thanks for the advice guys.
