Yesterday I was lucky enough to pick up my new motor (Fezza 348ts) from Shropshire and had a long drive back to Aberdeen (450miles!).

For the first 100 miles or so I was well behaved sitting at 75-80mph but at one point I decided to give it a wee squirt to just over 100mph (M6 somewhere around Preston). Sods law, as I was just slowing back down I spotted a Van at the side of the road with 2 open hatches at the top of the rear door and a fully marked traffic car in front. Whats the thoughts on whether this is an ANPR or a Speed trap ? Any ideas ??

Got me worried though and I spent the next 350miles at 75mph....(very restrained of me!)

The real pain is that I have a laser Pro Park sitting at home ready to install and and a full snooper with SLD module from my old car....

I've got a bag load of points at the moment and another 3 would see me off the road :-( I'm back down to 5points in August though so was planning on behaving until then.....

Sounds like ANPR, but they might have ticketed you for speed just for a giggle.

If I were on 9 pts, I'd be driving like a nun. (Bin the snooper - learn to use your eyes!)

Was using my eyes however there were a line of trucks on the inside lane blocking my view (and hopefully his!) until I was about 100m away.....too late to do much by that point....

Something like this ? If so, probably ANPR - especially as there was a marked plod wagon in close proximity..

On route to Knockhill in my mates 996 sitting around 110 we passed one of those vans.
Never heard a thing so keep your fingers crossed they could have been checking road tax.
Doesnt sound good that a marked car was there.
If you get anything in the post get the wife to sign for it and take it to a lawyer.
It is worth gettting proper free advice and saves wasting time trying to work the law out yourself on the tinternet.
They have only 14 days to contact you.

So are you normally in the habit of driving at 100 upto 100 yrds away from places where camera vans could be lurking whilst on 9 points, or was this a one-off kinda thing.

I wonder if you need better eyes.

I don't mean to sound antagonistic here, but shouldn't you have known better than to give it the beans driving up the northern part of the M6!?!!?

Agreed, especially on the Cumbrian stretch where you run the risk of being NIPped at 79mph and upwards..

Been there, done that! 83 at Tebay on a perfectly clear and dry day with no congestion whatsoever. My colleague who was travelling to the same place as me on the same day but at a different time got done for 79 a little while later. banghead

Give him a break, guys - he's got 9 points. Knowing better clearly isn't something he's very good at.

Hmmm. It must be a really dangerous stretch of motorway to be enforced so stringently. Which is strange since its one of the UK's emptiest.. rolleyes

Automatic Number Plate Recognition..

Will be on the lookout for any 'marked' vehicles - no tax, no insurance, disqualified drivers, that kind of stuff..

Friendly bunch eh !!!

Yes my eyesight is excellent since I have to pass a strict medical every year....
Normally I do know better having been sticking to speed limits rigidly for the last 18months or so despite doing a large amount of miles.....

Sunny day, big long straight road, no trafic other than a line of trucks on the inside, a quick squirt in 5th to 100ish, pass the last truck and hey presto camera van at the side of the road 100m away under a bridge.
Bad place to choose a quick squirt of speed, yes quite obviously....does it make me a dangerous driver even though I've never had an accident in 14 years ?

Wasn't trying to be unfriendly JP or as I said antagonistic, but that stretch of road, as has been so rightly pointed out, is one of the most heavily scammed areas in the UK.

That must be murder considering your choice of weapon.

Nope and you don't need to tell me bud', as I said in a previous post, been there and been booked not far from where you're referring to and I was doing a fair bit less than you were in perfect driving conditions.

BTW, congrats on your new buggy! Not my cup of tea, but you must be well made up. I just hope you keep your licence long enough to enjoy it!!

Reidy you have to get the details right....

Driving along on way to Knockhill Reidy says "Oh a speed camera van".
"WHERE?!!" I say.
"Oh back there, you've passed it now"
"Cheers mate, that helped!"

If it's going to Knockhill from the Kelty junction, there's often a 'safety' scamera van parked, (out of sight until it's too late obviously!!), on one of the faster bends on that stretch.
