- Although shouldn't be a problem soon as I am P/x-ing for an '07

Precisely, but usually the dealer will inform you that the car is due for MOT...

Although even scandinavia with the lowest worldwide accident rate has only a two year test.

Yes but along with that you will be getting a much longer and stricter test.

Many moons ago I was working at an MOT station and a local utility sold its entire fleet off to another company but they insisted all vehicles had an MOT regardless of age. 5 cars under a year old failed, 3 were bulbs/tyres type stuff but there was a Renault 19 with split rubber brake hoses and a Corsa with a crack in the front wishbone due to impact damage that the driver never had checked.

Let me not ever see you complain about the "Nanny State".
You, by such an attitude, provide the ammunition for it's expansion.

This has nothing to do with nanny state rubbish, this is simply a convenience the DVLA could provide that would help to ensure car owners did not forget their MOT expiry.
The DVLA send renewal forms sometime before your road tax expires, and your insurance company does they same for your policy. Why not complete the trio and include MOT? It really is quite easy to forget it's due, I'll bet a lot of people on here have accidentally let their MOT lapse.

Then that'd be down to VOSA who are in charge of MOTs (iirc). So thats another government computer contract thats given to EDS at a huge cost and 4yrs late in delivery. Maybe there's an online system that'll email and text you a reminder of when its due?
Doesn't it seem a bit ironic that cars have to be assessed every year for roadworthiness yet a driver can pass his test within a few weeks of his 17th birthday and go on to enjoy over half a century of assessment free motoring?
No wonder over 90% of acccidents are attributable to some form of human error.
