Out for a ride on the mountain bike this morning. Approaching a blind right bend on a country lane (wide enough for two cars but no white lines) car coming up behind decides not to slow down and pulls out to overtake on the approach to the bend at which point a motorbike appears coming towards him. The bike swerves to avoid doesn’t hit the car but comes off and slides down the road. I take action to avoid the flying bike then go to the aid of the rider who thinks he’s broken his collarbone. About 5mins later the car reappears guy gets out comes over to me says something about the corner being slippery checks the riders alive then drives off. As I already had my phone out i took a photo of the car with number plate clearly in the picture as it drove off.

Now the advice bit
Should I do anything about reporting the incident? The biker didn’t take details and as I said I have a picture with the cars reg no. As the rider was taken to casualty I assume the police will become involved.
If I should report it do I phone the local station or go down in person?

of course you bloody well report it.

The biker will have been in shock, he won't know what was going on.

No doubt your testimony will get him compensation for his injuries, repair his bike, and give the driver a sever ticking over, as it sounds like rightly should happen.

GO AND REPORT IT, and give a statement.

Draw a picture of the scene and what you think happened. If this has to go to court this will prove most useful

Thanks for the quick replies.
I will go down and report it. I didn’t get the bikers reg no so hopefully he will report it and the police will now what I’m talking about.
Bike rider seemed to think he was liable as he didn’t hit the car which is why he didn’t take details.

Definitely, no question.

He has left the scene of an accident where somebody was injured, and to which he may have contributed. He ought to report it himself to a local nick within 24 hours, but in case he does not, you should.

Just been to the local Police station to report the incident. There was a sign on the door which said this station will reopen at 9am on Tuesday 8th May. There was a number to ring on the bottom of the notice so I rang that. As it wasn’t an emergency I was given another number were they took my details but didn’t want much information about what happened.

So another question. Will a Police officer contact me for a statement and the car reg? I’m just a little concerned that they didn’t want details of the car involved.

A bit confused here...what's the end of the story? You, one biker, broken collar bone, bike layed down,...?

999? Ambulance, plod...?

The driver left the scene and sounds like the police were not in attendence although being an injury rtc they should have.
To the op,ring the police back or visit the station as your evidence really could help this rider out.Otherwise he will be injured, out of work possibly so down on his wages maybe and then the cost of his bike or insurance.Your help can help him out in a big way.I know it may be a bit of hassle to keep chasing it up but if it was you,you would be praying that someone did it for you.

Sorry if I wasn’t very clear in the original post. The rider insisted he didn’t need an ambulance. Said he’d broken his collarbone but could ride his bike like that. The occupants of a second car that arrived after the accident persuaded the rider to go to hospital and took him in their car. The bike was left on the verge. The Police weren’t involved as nobody phoned 999.

I posted on here as I was unsure as to what to do about reporting it as the biker didn’t seem interested in involving the Police, taking my details or those of the car involved.

maybe the biker was reluctant as maybe he didn't have insurance, licence etc etc ???

The thought did cross my mind but i think he was just in shock. He seemed to think that it was his fault as he didn’t make any contact with the car. He was actually an old guy on a BMW touring bike. I know you can’t really tell but he just didn’t seem the type to be uninsured.
