Just a general plod-related question.

On The Bill and other depictions of the police on TV, when they do an obbo, they always seem to get into exactly the right place (usually upstairs in the house directly opposite).

Does this really happen in real life, and if so, how do they do this? Do they have to ask the householder in question, or do they have powers to commandeer the premises? (If they have to ask, it emphasises the importance of the police-public relationship....)

That's all; thanks!

We had CiD in our front room in our unii digs staking out the crack dealers opposite - used to get back from uni, make them a cup of tea and have a chat!!

Watched the ensuing bust from my room with a beer!

Several years ago I was approached by the local CID to see if I would object to them using my retail premises over night to stake out a local retail business premises. My premises is situation on a corner of a main throughfare, and being on four floors, the police would have had all possible escape ro routes covered.

From the brief conversation I had with the CID, the crime was possibly an inside insurance job, no crime was however committed, and I was thanked by the Police for my cooperation.
