Hello all

My licence arrived home today and it now has another SP30 on but no extra points. It has information of the ban length and also the size of the fine.

When I phone up my insurance company when I get back, I was under the impression that they only need the offence codes and nothing else, is this true or do I need to describe the offence also?

You'll need to disclose the code, the number of points (!) and the length of your ban. No way round this if you want your insurance to be valid. And then sit back and listen to the sound of dollar signs coming from the other end of the phone! Also a good idea to do this asap.

Just to clarify, are you saying that you got a ban due to your last speeding conviction.... what are the details? or have you been caught out on totting up, which is a different code, IIRC

My insurance has actually gone down from last year as i've hit the seemingly magic age of 25. I wasn't sure if you had to actually mention the ban or just the code.

I was given a 28 day ban, an SP30 and 0 points. I have a previous SP30 and 3 points on my licence though.

Thanks for the replies gents.

Dave!

I was given a straight ban for speeding in 2002, 115mph on a 3 lane stretch of the A23 in West Sussex, when my license was returned it stated SP30 with no points. My insurance went down at its next renewal but when my wife told her ins co about my misdemenour she was asked how many points I received as, and I quote, you can't just be banned for an SP30 offence, just goes to show how much some ins companies know!!
