Anyone know what the latest position is with speeding in France ? I know they work to a tariff in terms of fines and can ban you instantly for certain speeds ??

I am due to take my 570 bhp Porsche turbo to Le mans practice and just wanted to make sure I had enough Euro's to cover any eventuallity!!!

40 over posted limit is ban.
Sometimes car will be impounded, pending accused's returning in future to have a chat with a magistrate.

To be clear, that's 40 kmh over the limit, which is
130 kmh in the dry, making 170 kph tops.

In the rain, it drops to 110 kmh plus 40 kmh,
makes 150 kmh.

In old money, that's 107 mph and 93 mph.

I can't imagine any Porsche having any trouble
cruising all day every day at those sorts of speeds.

Do the french coppers get their guns out for
excessive speeding, leading to magistrates visit ?

Please see my thread in GG regarding this!

I have been tugged at a radar verified 140mph in Frog, and was given an on the spot fine of 90 Euros. They wanted to see my licence as it needs to go on the ticket/citation, but I didnt have it with me so they just put my dads down instead.

My friend was caught at 11pm last night at 172mph and escaped with a large fine, although I don't know the figure yet as he only got back to the UK this AM.
You don't know how annoying that is. I was doing 131mph, well 142 by the time he pulled out, and got fined 750E. For s sake. I wish there was some formality between the fines and speeds. ing French bastards.

I don't know about the French police drawing guns,
but the Italian police DEFINATLY DO !!!!!!
I was heading out of Italy en route to Monaco, on a small road, (SS20) to join the A10 coast road, I had planned to head right to Monaco, but for some reason headed left.
We joined A10 at VENTIGMIA (sp) and as soon as I joined the A10, I knew I was heading in wrong direction, as the Med. was on my right, and should have been on my left.
Got to Verona, and instead of going through the toll, and simply turning back again in the right direction, I just turned around in the toll area and headed back to Monaco,
BIG MISTAKE !!!!!
Me and the wife where making good time along the A10, ('nuff said) in our 2002 V8 Trans Am convertible
and when we arrived at the next toll's after about 30 minutes, there was about 4 police cars, and 6 - 8 police, and they funelled us to this seperate area.
Crapping myself.
I think she wet the seat !!!
Guns drawn I kid you not.
ordered out of the car and to stand against the armco.
They asked if we had seen a black car following us, I honestly said no, i didn't, then the wife chirps in and tells me, she seen a black car, but thought it was just racing us.
FU**ING great I tell her.
They (police) checked EVERYTHING !! passports, licence, all the car papers, they made loads of phone calls, we were there for over an hour.
Luck was with us then read us the riot act, and told us to pay at the toll and go.

See Med. on the right instead of the left !!

Coming back from Monte Carlo yesterday I met some guys, two of which had been stopped. Once for 2 hours and they kept his license. Mates had to drive the rest of the way. Three guys with 2 cars also got stopped, 2 banned (so 2 cars and only 1 valid driver yikes). Fines were 135 and 90 euros so not too bad, but there is a 1500 euro fine for the worst offences (not sure what speed). Apparently the police said if you keep it below 170kph then it's just a small(ish) fine.

I got zapped doing 145 in a 130 but they didn't seem to care - they're looking for the serious offenders, not lie the UK where they park their little vans and process a million fines a day.
But they know when the events are and what kind of cars they are likely to see during those periods, so be warned.

I got stopped twice on the way back from MC - all north of Reims - which is the hot area

160kph and 170kph - but as per my comments on the other thread, the second one was BS but they gave me 90 euro fine for each.

Still would like to know how the hell they got me - personally i think they just look for foreign cars going quick and visually estimate the speed

on the plus side on the way down, i didn't have a single stop and cruised at 110 - 120mph the whole way there !
which is nothing excessive or dangerous on the empty french autoroutes.

Apparently they clock off at 18:00, and the Reims-Calais route was free of trouble for me luckily.
Anybody else see the Enzo travelling back up? Lovely.

I got clocked at 201kmh (A2 Reims-Calais), got a £200 fine, didn't have sufficient cash (except £'s) so they held my Passport whilst they 'escorted' me to a bank to exchange/withdraw the readies, no ban although I did receive a request from the court by post 2/3 months later for a further 'contribution' rolleyes

Can't remember.

I was doing 160kph.
I didn't have enough cash for the fine.
Passed le plod with le flic, got out of sight and floored it.
Made a swift exit courtesy of telepeage at the next junction and used tomtom to take the long way home.

That was last July and I haven't heard anything so I might have got away with it.

still haven't found out what method Le flic are using though

My french chum said it was laser - but I've got jammers / detectors and would of picked them up, unless they hit me from behind

The nice policeman told me Radar Camera - but I was also told that it's all laser in France

Anyone with more info ?

All the road warnings say radar, but then the wording may just be out of date.
