What I want from the police
Discussion
There have been a few threads recently where it has become clear that many of us are not satisfied with what we're getting from the police.
So, what do we want?
I want the persons and property of me and my fellow citizens protected without inconvenience.
I want the police to call me sir and mean it if they ever have to minimally inconvenience me.
I want the inconvenience associated with mishaps and one-off events minimised - for both the involved and uninvolved.
...and that's about it.
I think it's stupid to have a costly "War on Drugs" when they could be a revenue source just like alcohol and tobacco.
I think every law beyond the common law should fall unless ratified one, three, five and ten years after passing.
I think the government should mostly butt the f
k out - democracy is about protecting the freedoms of the citizenry, not about being interfering busy-bodies...
Thoughts?

id like to see an end to the easy goal situation we have within the police, an end to the magority of blatant easy goal getters within the force.
if you want to kiss ass all your life to get to the top why not try and get a job in the fasion/music/movie industry?
and yeah, I know the usual suspects will cry foul play, try and say im bashing BiB, etc, if you didn't spend all your working time on PH you might get more results, no?
as for the ludicrus "you get what you pay for" statement the other day from looser number 1, do your homework, find out how much more than your yearly salary I paid in taxes last year then come back and tell me I should expect better policing.

I'd like them to protect my car by preventing you from driving fast.fluffnik said:

I don't think letting people get addicted to drugs is a good thing, the only reason tobacco and alcohol are still legal is because they have been apart of our lifestyle for a very long while. If tobacco never existed before and now was just becoming available while knowing the damage it could do, you think it'd be legalized? Same goes for drugs.7db said:

The market exists regardless and will not go away.

The only way of establishing this is to stop you and ask you questions.
Personally, I do not expect Police Officers to call me Sir, in the same way that I would not call them Sir. Officee and Mr ipsg.glf would be fine.

I'd like them to protect my car by preventing you from driving fast.Do you think preventing people from driving poorly would protect your car alot more? The snag is, as present policy is all about speed regardless of quality, poor driving will continue to remain uncorrected unless it happens above the speed limit. Meanwhile quality observant driving above the limit is punished pointlessly for the laws sake and nothing more! No wonder the scamera partnerships are despised and held in such contempt by 90% of drivers!
If I may ask, what's your big issue with people driving fast? Can you comprehend the concept that speed can be safe and indeed is for millions of drivers every day, or must all drivers above the limit no matter what the circumstances always be targeted and stamped on with £60 fines in your opinion? All to no avail of course, regarding protecting your car..

"The only reason tobacco and alcohol is still legal..." you say Hitman? What about alcohol Hitman, you think it could be made illegal? You're on another planet mate you really are!!
I only do alcohol and tobacco personally, how about you Hitman? The other stuff out there that people enjoy can be no worse for you that's for sure, but all things in moderation hey? And if people enjoy it as they do, then it's their bloody choice. I guess we suffer the symptoms of an ever worsening nanny state. For god sake, I'd like to see these nanny types live in Iraq for six months!
First post in this section, though lurked a lot.
What do I want from the police?
George Dixon back, though this time to dodge the bullet from the scrote. (Dirk Bogarte played him, characters name escapes me)
Really would love to go back to the earlier days of respect etc., but realise it won't happen.
Visible presence is a major factor to me.
I know that things change, but a few years ago a BiB used to command presence and respect.
Am I that old that I shouldn't go out now if I need a loaf after 7.00 PM ? If I do I won't walk to the shop as I've still got the scars from the last time. It hurt, but you tend to accept stuff like that nowadays because you shouldn't be out late. All I want is to be able to have a walk about in the area I have lived in all my life without fear of being leapt upon.
Sorry for that, got it out of my system (NOT) but it still annoys me that I can't go where I want when I want anymore

For why? Joe Scrote spends much time being indistinguishable from an upstanding member of society and requires no inconvenience at these times either. The only way of establishing this is to stop you and ask you questions.

It's maybe a little flip, the requirement to call me Sir and mean it, but it covers the most important featue of the police; it exists to serve, not to be served. As John Locke wrote of the rights that a government should guarantee its people, what I want is protection of my "life, liberty and estate" (a concept later incorporated into the Declaration of Colonial Rights and in a modified form into the United States and America's famous Declaration of Independence. In common with the ideals expressed in that later document, none of these rights is subservient to any other - Streaky
The Police have always called me SIR. or Mr Jackson. except when they called me young man (I was 9 and quite happy with that)
I'd be happy if when I call 999 to report a crime in progress, they came and stopped the crime. I talking unregistered Motorcross bike being used on the road and the rider being filmed filling up with Tesco's Petrol, so no risk that they can't identify the Lad. I took the trouble to phone 999 - you take the trouble to respond, please.
