Before I start I've searched the forums, but nobody seems to have my specific issue.

My car has a parking permit, is taxed, MOTd, and insured. It is parked outside the house on the street.

This evening the traffic warden gave me a parking ticket and a non-display of tax disc "Warning Notice".

Ofcourse I now realise that when the kids were helping to clean the car at the weekend they must have mucked around the window stuff and turned the parking permit and tax disk the wrong way round. Of course everything is back in place now.

Now, I'm sure that the beaurocrats will not understand so I'll probably have to pay the parking fine.

My actual question is (finally), is about the "Warning Notice" for the tax disk. Firstly it is yellow with a load of scary text, but no contact number. But what does it actually mean, the small print says a report has been sent off to the DVLA?
- What does the DVLA do with these?
- I presume I get a fine, but am I looking at over £1000 as the note says even though the car is actually taxed according to the computer database? (I know from reading these forums, that it is an offence to not display a tax disk).
- How long does this all take, will it be months before I hear anything (hence the vain hope that I'll have time to save up)?

I guess the kids won't be getting any pocket money for a few years.

Thanks in advance.

No Excise Licence is a 'Revenue'offence and DVLA are the authority for the prosection of the offence of no Excise Licence. LA cannot do it but do send a form to DVLA stating vehicle found not displaying.

When forms lands at DVLA they check against their records and in this case will find no offence. NFA.

Unless a FPN has been issued for the offence of Failing to display a current Licence I am doubtful that any action will be taken in respect of the criminal offence of fauiling to display said Licence.

On the premis nothing ventured nothing gained why not try an appeal as everything in order and not due to own negligence Permit not displayed.
May hit someone with kids of their own and a 'heart'.

Just appeal saying that the disk fell off without your notice. You shouldnt have to tell them how.

Thank you to everyone who has replied.

I'm a bit calmer this morning than I was last night.

I perfectly understand why it is an offence, just frustrated that I hadn't thought to check my windscreen...... a valuable lesson learnt, hopefully won't be an expensive one.

I sincerely hope you have learned your lesson. You are nothing more than a vile common criminal who deserves a large fine, community service or even a custodial sentence. Welcome to Surveillance Britain, there's no place to hide for people like you. We're coming to get you!

Alternatively, consider the fact that someone somewhere is trying to get those that deliberately take the p!ss out of you by not paying their tax, and also take comfort out of the fact that you probably won't get done as it was a mistake.

I know it's more fun to moan, but in this case it seems no harm done.

DVLA must have been out in force yesterday. When i arrived home there were no fewer than FOUR cars on my street with large yellow stickers saying "UNTAXED VEHICLE" on them. Each car had also been clamped. Didn't know they did this tbh, thought they just fined you and towed it if you kept offending. Anyone know the legalitites?

FOUR in one street? thats a lot! it justs goes to show thy need to add tax/insurance to petrol! how would they get away with it then. come on govt! dont you realise the current legislation is allowing criminals to get away with this shit and as this guys street shows the majority of the public are soon to follow!!

I'd move to a better area.

yes We are young professionals and bought the house as the first step on the property ladder. It's very difficult to get on otherwise! The problem with our street is it's (quite) nice but is round the corner from a ChavScum estate. They all leave their didgy motors on our street to avoid any possible association between them and the vehicle.

Sounds like an excellent way of keeping them away then. Once the clamped cars have been moved that is.

I go cought probably a year ago for not displaying a tax disk. Basically, I bought a new one a few weeks before and forgot to put it in the car (it was with the cars paperwork, stupid, yes I know). Anyway, got questioned about it when a police officer spotted it while I was filling up. They made sure that I did have one in the first place, then sent me on my way with a 60 pound fine for not displaying it.

So I expect that's the worst you can expect.

So they check with DVLA that you have actually "taxed" your car then "tax" you again for not displaying it, did you show them it or did you not have your vehicle docs with you as well?

Hi smile

On the subject of tax discs falling off....my Porsche has a VERY rounded screen and the disc fell off (from normal place)with regular monotony...I got stopped a couple of times and after picking it up off the floor was told off and let go...

Eventually I fixed it TOP CENTRE of windscreen...never fell off and never been stopped since..

I even asked a Traffic Officer if it was ok there ? He said as long as its taxed we have better things to worry about...

My question is...is there an ACTUAL place its meant to be legally ???

All the best Brett smile

The Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002

Reg 6(4)(c) in the case of any vehicle fitted with a glass windscreen in front of the driver extending across the vehicle to its near side, on or adjacent to the near side of the windscreen

Hi smile

Lol...so would top centre be classed as "adjacent" ??

Or should I move it 2 inches to left to be on "near side" ?

All the best Brett smile
