Well exactly as the title says really.

Both of my kids have just been shot at by two kids with BB guns, my son got hit just below the eye (scary thought in itself), my daughter phoned me and as soon as the scrotes knew I was on my way they scarpered.

Have just phoned the local nick to report it and am waiting for someome to either get in touch or come round.

So in the meantime, I am just trying to find out exactly what the score is with them, as I have seen them in shops being sold to all and sundry.

We know who the scrotes are, and will be reporting it at school as well on Monday as I think the school need to know (should they try and bring the guns into school)

they are pretty harmless really. you may be reacting a little too much. they leave a little bruise from close range. i dont think informing the school will be of any benefit to anyone.

Well a really nice police mand has just been round, the kids with the guns are known to them so they have confiscated the guns and they are going to be destroyed, both the kids are 10 and purchased the guns themselves, so they are going to deal with where ever they bought them from. And the officer is getting in touch with the youth referral team.

He had to fly though as he was getting a call in for a break in, so he left here sharpish with his lights and sirens going.

Still going to mention it at school though, as these two are known trouble makers and the head has a zero tolerance when it comes to what the kids do both at school and away from school.

Harmless? Would you want to be shot in the eye with one? I wouldn't.

Well, surely they leave blindness from a close range if they actually hit the eye? I think reporting them is the correct action. Someone in our town was found guilty last year when he blinded someone with a BB gun.

A no-no for under 18s in this coutry as far as i was aware. However, I used to mess about with them when I was a tad younger than this, they can do some serious damage if they are used at close range near the eyes.

Just waving one around in public can be fatal - reported that Ann Anderson, shot dead by police (possible SbC) on 11 June, was carrying a BB gun that she refused to drop when challenged by armed police - Streaky

I think it may be 16 or 17, I bought one when I was in college many years ago using my provisional license as ID. As has been said I wouldn't want to be shot in the eye with one, but apart from that, they're pretty harmless.

Again as with most things the problem is with the people that use them, not the item itself. I'm guessing these 10 years old have just got their hands on them and using them as a toy which they are not. Kids need to be educated about these things, not just left to run around with something that can be dangerous.

Also laws already in place meaning posession in a public place is illegal, can't imagine it stopping another law being implemented though if a high profile story appears on the presses any time soon.

Some of these are prety powerful and good replicas of serious military hardware. There are lots of clubs which dress up as SAS assault forces and meet in the woods to shoot/ambush each other - all good clean fun! But I don't know what happens if a driver om the way home is stopped by the plod and asked to explain what is in the boot!

I assume showing him the hole where the battery pack/air cylinder goes and the ammo would do it. Most real guns don't take AA batteries hehe

I knew (vaguely) someone who got 3 years for a road rage incident where he threatened someone with a BB gun

You've got to be joking? I've got a Russian pistol, and you would not want to be shot in the eye with that, I can tell you. I shot it at a wall close range and the BB came right back at me and embedded itself in my arm like shot from a shotgun, if I shot the gun directly into flesh even from several feet away, it would need digging out with tweasers and a scalpel. It also goes through both sides of a drinks can, although this is not as impressive as my old BSA air rifle I had as a kid, as that would go through both sides of a tin can when they really were tin cans with seam welds. In fact I shot my mate Andrew Beardsley with it when he was sitting on the back of a bench from eight houses away and the pellet still stuck in the back of his hand. For which I got a clout to the ear from PC Froggat and a few thumps from my dad too.

It depends on the type of BB gun, is it the type that uses a spring or eletric motor, with the plastic BB's they will sting and bruise. If it's the Co2 type, they can be around 3 foot pounds. It only takes 1 foot pound for skin penetration. One of those in the eye at the VERY LEASE will cause blindness. It is an offence for people aged under 17 to carry an airgun or airgun ammunition in a public place, even if it is in a secure cover, unless accompanied by an adult aged 21 or over. Atb Derek.

You do as i had to do once, explain in the boot in cases are imitation firearms, you hand the keys to the copper and request he opens then once he's opened it they dont usually mind they just ask for you to show it's an imitation, the copper who stopped me then asked to have a go on one!

I wouldn't say that, some of the airsoft guns i have could easily kill you if they hit your eye

Must admit I played around with one of these when I was 17ish, knows what a 10 year old is doing with one though, shouldnt a cap gun or a rubber dart gun be cool enough for a 10 year old?

mildly amusing story, if you look at the packaging of most of these bb guns they are maufactured in the far east and quite a few in japan, they have a very japanese style cartoon warning about not shooting your pets, other people and making sure you wear your safety goggle when using one, with a nice diagram of a BB hitting a tin can and coming straight back into the users eye.

Of course as a goddy kid I laughed at this, tols my mate "that'll never happen" shot an coke can and the BB promptly bounded back and hit me right in the eye! still got both peepers but it hurt like hell at the time!!

As your kid was hit by the projectile would assault not be appropriate if both parties were not playing and they were just shot at and hit??

so did these 10 yr olds have CO2 powered ones? most probably not. yes they are harmless unless you take a shot to the eye. its all daily mail hype that makes people think these are dangerous and unless they have CO2 they are not.
my friends and i when we were about 16 used to have fights in the woods with them and we are all here to tell the tale.

also what is with the personal insults? little low isnt it?

Potentially an offence to have one in a public place, whether it's used or not - s16a and/or s 18 Firearms Act.

I think her child was hit just below the eye.

Too close for most sensible people.

Hey ho.
