Driving up the A11 today at a steady 80, I saw a little white speck hiding up a slip road. So I slowed down to 70mph assuming he was a spotter for a van further up the road.
A couple of minutes later a range rover cruised passed at about 90mph, nothing too wrong in my opinion, dry road, low traffic volume etc etc apart from being above the arbitary number. Anyway about 2mins later still, what I presume was the patrol car I'd previously spotted came by and he was absolutely killing it 130mph I'd guess, no blues on either. I was approaching another car and I could easily see people in my situation pulling out infront this guy and him not being able to stop.
So anyway in the next layby is the rangerover having just been pulled over by the patrol car, clearly to me at least the patrol car was the most dangerous thing on the road not the RR, I even thought about stopping but decided that was definitely a bad idea.
Anyway in that kind of situation what speed does the guy in the RR get done for? the speed he past the PC at when it was tucked up the slip road? or the speed he was going when the police car caught up with him? Was the PC actually doing anything wrong(driving that fast without his lights on)?

The Magistrates may well believe that the RR driver was travelling at 130 ... because the police driver says that's the speed he had to drive at to catch up [this aspect covered lots of times before] - Streakystreaky said:

Which seems somewhat unfitting for some reason, perhaps I'm getting old...

Magistrates are surely not that thick? Surely?
Neither reason nor logic are required...Sad.

Do you know the Range Rover was stopped for speeding or are you guessing that's what it was for ?A couple of minutes later a range rover cruised passed at about 90mph, nothing too wrong in my opinion, dry road, low traffic volume etc etc apart from being above the arbitary number. Why's 90 OK but 130 not?
Because, I was coming up on a slower car and preparing to pull out (ie checking mirrors) Its not that easy to judge another cars velocity in your wing mirror, I spotted it was a police car and decided not to(not because I could see it was shifting but just because it was a police car), it was only when it flashed past that I realised quite how fast he was going. If I had pulled out (say I just saw a white estate not a police car), he'd have really struggled not to hit the back of me. Had the RR driver passed me at his pace he'd would have had no problems.
Surely a trained police driver should assess the oncoming situation and either have slowed down or put his lights on to let me know how fast he was going.
But the point of the post was that it seemed so rediculous to go hooning down the motorway in traffic at 130mph ish to give someone 3 points.
p.s yes RR man might have been some drug dealer, but either they've been waiting for him for years or that was just another speeding fine.

At least drug dealers serve a market, a market that exists without advertising and despite active discouragement. An expensive piece of kit, staffed by two expensive public employees, sitting on a sliproad on the offchance that someone might break some trivial regulation, without harming anyone, serves no purpose of any worth at all.
Have a closer look. Who are the racketeers?

Where's the fun in that, a policeman is allowed to chase after a motorist that he believes is braking the law, If he chases after him with his lights blazing the guy will see him in his mirrors and slow down, like I said no fun in that.threesixty said:

But he might have been a mass murderer!

From a trained drivers perspective, to be passing potentially outpulling traffic at twice their 70-80mph speed could easily be considered dangerous, which is why you'll often see plod and others
one lane over with an lane empty between, in which case it'll be safe enough to pass at high speeds. If the risk is high which its sound like it was - blues & twos all the way or they should have scrubbed their speed or slotted in to match.
In Germany however, as 99% of drivers are better trained, you'll notice that they check their mirrors properly, indicate (the opposite way) when they are not pulling out into fast moving traffic, fast moving cars are prepared to slow down & speed flexibilty is the key.
